Ex-Alpha's Regret: Siren's Comeback novel Chapter 55

POV: Seraphina

My silent war was not without cost. News of Jax's brazen rescue attempt had spread throughout the territories like wildfire, a deep and public humiliation for an Alpha as proud as Damian. His fury needed a target. Since he couldn't reach my brother, who had vanished back into the shadows as cleanly as he had appeared, Damian turned his wrath upon the most visible symbol of my defiance: my family.

The news came in hushed, terrified whispers from Elara.

"There was an emergency Alpha council meeting last night," she whispered, her hands shaking so badly that the hidden bowl of soup she carried sloshed over the sides. "It was after midnight. Alpha Damian… he formally accused the Thorne name of treason. He said your brother's actions were an act of war against the Blackwood pack and a fundamental violation of the alliance."

The word hung in the air between us. Treason. Not a disagreement. Not a family dispute. Treason. A crime punishable by eradication.

A cold knot formed in my stomach. "What does that mean, Elara? What did he do?"

"A blockade, Luna," she said, her eyes wide with fear. "A full economic blockade. He has forbidden any pack in the alliance from trading with your family. He's cutting off all supplies to your ancestral lands. The winter grain shipments from the Sunstone pack were turned back at the border this morning. The medicinal trade from the Greenriver pack has been suspended indefinitely. Food, medicine… everything."

A low growl echoed in my mind, a sound that was not my own, but was born of my pain. It was a sound of pure, unadulterated hatred, a promise of retribution.

The love I had felt for Damian had once put my wolf to sleep.

Now, the hatred I felt for him was waking her up.
