Ex-Alpha's Regret: Siren's Comeback novel Chapter 93

POV: Seraphina

Just as a fragile sense of routine began to settle over Aethelgard, a new variable arrived on the horizon. A sleek, black yacht, its lines as sharp and elegant as a stiletto, sliced through the waters of our protected harbor. Killian Vance.

He did not come alone.

I met him at the docks, Jax at my side. Behind Killian, disembarking from his vessel, was a team of at least a dozen individuals. They moved with a quiet, unnerving efficiency, their eyes sharp and intelligent. They were not warriors. They were scholars, scientists, healers.

"Siren," Killian greeted me, a small, polite smile on his lips. His eyes, however, held a serious, intense light. "Forgive the intrusion. I came as soon as I could clear my schedule."

"Your timing is… unexpected," I said, my voice cool, my inner wolf instantly wary of this powerful, unannounced presence on our new territory.

"I prefer to be direct," he said, seeming to read my thoughts. He gestured to the team assembling behind him. "When we last spoke, you had suffered a great deal. As had your family. I am a man who protects his investments. And you, Siren, are my most important investment."

My spine stiffened. I was no one's investment.

"I have studied the reports on your father's condition," Killian said, his voice softening with a genuine empathy that caught me off guard. "His body is stable, but his spirit, his wolf, has been damaged by a potent, silver-laced neurotoxin. It is a cowardly, vicious weapon. The longer a spirit remains in that induced coma, the less likely it is to ever find its way back."

He looked me directly in the eye, his expression one of complete sincerity.

"I want to offer you their help. My team can begin treatment on your father immediately. There are no guarantees, of course. But their methods are… unique. They have brought others back from the brink. Please, allow me to do this. As an ally. As a friend."
