The Ex-Husband's Apology (by Sebastian Grey) novel Chapter 27

Chapter27

“Jennifer, what happened to you? You’re soaked! Get in already!”

Catalina sounded genuinely concerned.

Jennifer knew it was only natural for Catalina to be in Brayan’s car.

But she didn’t want Catalina here right now, not when she was soaked and a complete mess.

Catalina was still in her usual pink designer suit, one more button undone than necessary at her shirt collar. Jennifer didn’t want to know who had unbuttoned it.

Catalina’s makeup was always flawless and sweet, but now her lipstick was smudged. Again, Jennifer didn’t want to guess who had smudged it either.

“What are you waiting for?” Catalina urged again. “You’ll catch a cold. Come on. Get in. Brayan won’t mind you getting the seats a little wet. There’s room between us.”

Jennifer had been tempted to get in Brayan’s car carlier because of her current situation, but now, after hearing what Catalina said, all she wanted was for the two of them to disappear from her sight.

“No thanks. I’ll walk,” she replied.

Brayan glanced at the blood dripping from her knee and said coolly, “Your call.”

Her thin figure shuddered slightly in the pouring rain.

“Brayan, are you really going to leave Jennifer here like this? She looks like a drowned rat!” Catalina cooed, slipping her hand onto Brayan’s thigh.

“She refused the ride.” Brayan replied. Then he turned to Jamie. “Let’s go. Catalina has her schedule.”

A bolt of lightning ripped through the sky.

The black Maybach rolled out of Jennifer’s view, and a deafening clap of thunder cracked.

She crouched down by the roadside, hugging her knees. She couldn’t tell which hurt more–her injuries or her heart.

She pulled out her phone and called the police. Then she called Lydia.

She felt strangely lucky that she still had her phone with her. Without it, she wouldn’t even know what to do.

“I wonder if I’ll get new design inspiration at the art exhibition?” she asked sweetly.

“I think you will,” Brayan replied, his voice flat but encouraging. “But… didn’t you say you want to swing by the Juvenile Detention Center? That’s why we are taking this route, remember?”

“Oh… yeah!” Catalina’s smile stiffened. “I mean, that’s where our story began, right? But the meet–and–greet is about to start soon. If we hadn’t run into Jennifer, we wouldn’t have wasted so much time.”

“Yeah, it’s her fault,” Brayan said, echoing her without emotion. He always sounded cold when he spoke of Jennifer. However, Catalina couldn’t detect any anger on his face.

At Nexford Hospital.

After being taken there by ambulance, Jennifer was reluctantly subjected to a full medical examination.

She didn’t think her injuries were serious–mostly scrapes. It was the trauma that did the real damage.

What confused her was how seriously the doctors were taking her condition. When the exam ended, they even assigned her a VIP room

for IV treatment and rest.
