Vivienne waited, nerves stretched tight.
She told herself Emy would stand with her today. Maybe Emy had no idea what to do about the Christian situation in the long run—but none of that mattered if she couldn’t get through this storm first. If they didn’t survive tonight, there’d be no “afterwards” at all.
Vivienne wiped away her tears and glanced at the projection screen off to the side. As soon as Emy revealed “the truth,” Vivienne planned to pounce, twisting the story to accuse Donovan Entertainment and Emilia of smearing her just to win. She could barely keep the smirk off her lips. The whole reason she scheduled the livestream now was to ride the current wave of attention.
She’d crush Emilia under her heel and send *Vivi’s Whispers* soaring at the box office.
Across the room, Tyler watched Vivienne from a distance, his brow furrowed in disapproval.
On the projection screen, Donovan Entertainment’s official livestream was up. So far, whoever was holding the phone hadn’t shifted it up, so all they could see was a blurry, chaotic car interior—nothing but noise and confusion.
“Vivienne.” Emilia’s voice cut through the din. She was watching Vivienne on stage, her tone calm and measured. “You said we’ve known each other for years. That we’re good friends. That we’ve… wiped away each other’s tears?”
Vivienne heard the woman’s voice, something about it tickling her memory, but she couldn’t quite place it. Not that it mattered.
Eyes red, Vivienne replied, “Emy, have you really forgotten?”
She gave a little laugh, mocking herself. “We used to have so much fun together. We really were close.”
“Even if you’ve turned on me now—whether you were pressured or bribed by someone else—we were still good friends once.”
Vivienne looked over at the projection. “Just tell them the truth.”
But the woman on screen just smiled—a smile that made Vivienne uneasy.
“Friends?” the woman echoed, still smiling.
“Vivienne.” Her voice was gentle, but it drew every eye in the room. “I can be friends with anyone, Vivienne. Anyone except you.”
Her words were steady, no hesitation.
Vivienne hadn’t expected that. She started crying again, mind racing desperately for a way out.
