First Love Only? I Left Him First, Now the CEO Can't Let Go novel Chapter 263

Chapter 263: Chapter 263: Are You Begging Me?

Serena Jennings sat alone at the dining table.

She lowered her gaze to the table, noticing that it hadn’t been replaced; it was the same one she and Caleb Lockwood had bought when they first got married.

Inexplicably, she thought of the phrase "the world changes, but not the people."

However, this phrase didn’t quite fit the current relationship between her and Caleb Lockwood.

Because they hadn’t even changed the people involved.

Serena quietly waited for a while, and when she got bored, she started scrolling through her phone.

Caleb Lockwood had been in the kitchen for nearly two hours.

After two hours, he came out with a dark expression, carrying a pot of porridge and two dishes.

One was scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and the other was sweet and sour pork.

Serena tasted them, finding the tomatoes in the scrambled eggs were too raw, and the sugar in the sweet and sour pork was burnt, leaving a bitter taste.

She took a sip of the porridge, which had hard grains and was undercooked.

Caleb Lockwood’s face was as dark as it could get, resembling a layer of soot from a pot.

"I’m sorry..."

Serena heard Caleb Lockwood apologizing angrily.

The target of Caleb Lockwood’s anger was clearly not her; it had to be himself.

He couldn’t possibly be angry at the tomatoes, eggs, meat, and rice, right?

Caleb Lockwood originally intended to show off his cooking skills in front of Serena.

But after two hours of work, he messed up.

He never expected his culinary skills to have deteriorated to this level.

Even though there weren’t many ingredients in the fridge, he didn’t get any of them right.

Previously, Caleb Lockwood never thought much of cooking.

He learned everything quickly, so he thought he could cook too.

Yet this time, he clearly felt the hardship and exhaustion of cooking.

Three years into marriage, Serena would wake up early every day to buy the freshest ingredients and would change up the meals she cooked for him daily, not only cooking well but quickly.

How could this not be considered a skill? Not be considered a technique?

Caleb Lockwood took a deep breath.

Such a simple truth, why hadn’t he realized it before?

"Don’t eat anymore, I’ll order takeout!"

Caleb Lockwood took out his phone, only to hear Serena casually say, "No need, I’ll make do, I’m not picky."

After speaking, Serena buried her head and continued eating.

The meals that Caleb Lockwood made personally, even he didn’t want to eat them.

Yet Serena ate them, and enjoyed them.

Caleb Lockwood felt as though his chest had been warmed.

Serena really wasn’t picky.

But he, on the other hand, was very picky.

Even though Serena’s cooking skills were exquisite, in his experience, over the three years of marriage, he had frequently found faults even with her perfect dishes.

Serena noticed Caleb Lockwood sitting beside her without touching his chopsticks, and couldn’t help but wonder if it was because he didn’t want to eat the failed dishes.

She sighed lightly and asked, "What ingredients are left in the kitchen now?"

Caleb Lockwood was taken aback and honestly replied:

"Only about-to-expire noodles and a few bags of pickled mustard greens are left."

After hearing Caleb Lockwood’s words, Serena got up and went into the kitchen.

In no time, she came out carrying a steaming bowl of noodles.

"With limited ingredients, I could only make pickled mustard greens noodles."

Serena placed the bowl in front of Caleb Lockwood.

She couldn’t figure out if it was the heat from the noodles causing an illusion, but she felt Caleb Lockwood looked so moved he was about to cry.

But how could that be?

It was just a simple bowl of pickled mustard greens noodles. Never before, when she made him gourmet meals with four dishes and soup, had Caleb Lockwood been moved.

Caleb Lockwood held the bowl of noodles with both hands, as though cradling a treasure of immeasurable value.

This was the first meal Serena had cooked for him since their divorce.

"What about yours?"

He asked.

"The noodles aren’t enough, just enough for one bowl."

After Serena spoke, Caleb Lockwood’s eyes instantly brightened.

He began eating the noodles.

Eating the noodles Serena made for him herself.

It was clearly just a bowl of simple, even crude, pickled mustard greens noodles, but in Caleb Lockwood’s eyes it seemed like a grand feast, tastier than any delicacy he’d ever had.

Serena watched Caleb Lockwood eat the noodles, internally struggling to decide between laughing or crying.
