Fiona shot Jane a look she’d never seen before—half surprise, half pride.
Jane had really changed. She wasn’t just diving in headfirst anymore; she was actually thinking things through, planning ahead. After everything that happened with the Kidd family, it was like Jane had finally figured out how to stand on her own two feet.
“Fiona, what’s up?” Jane felt a weird chill creep up her neck. Fiona’s stare made her uneasy. “Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong?”
Fiona shook her head and smiled, her expression softening. “No, nothing’s wrong. I’m just kind of amazed. You’ve changed so much—you actually think about things now.”
It was the first time Fiona had ever complimented her, and Jane’s cheeks turned pink. She scratched her head, grinning shyly.
They soon reached their apartment building. Jane was about to say goodbye when Fiona suddenly grabbed her hand.
“For tomorrow’s competition, I’m going to compete myself,” Fiona said, matter-of-factly.
Then she dropped Jane’s hand and slipped inside, leaving Jane frozen in shock in the hallway.
Jane looked like she’d just been hit over the head. By the time she snapped out of it, Fiona’s door was already closed. Jane stood there, staring, her heart pounding.
Was Fiona serious?
If she was, this was amazing news. With Fiona competing, Jane didn’t care if it was Esther or anyone else—she felt totally confident.
She’d never seen any of Fiona’s designs in person, but the woman had created International Glam. That alone proved she was way above the rest of them.
Jane pressed her palms to the door and called out, “Fiona, you said it! I’m telling the organizers right now!”
She practically skipped down the hallway, moving so fast she was gone in a flash.
“It’s not about looking down on you—I’m just being real. We can’t beat Esther. If we’re going to lose anyway, I’d rather see Mr. Connor out there. She’s incredible. If anyone can win, it’s her.”
“How do you know I can’t do it? You’re not me!”
“Whatever. I’m not going to argue with you.”
The girl on the couch just turned away, knowing it was pointless to argue when someone was fired up.
Besides, she trusted Fiona’s talent. She wanted nothing more than to see International Glam take home the top prize.
Every time she saw Team M acting like they owned the place, she wanted to march over and put them in their place. Seriously, who gave them the right to act so smug?
