Forced Marriage: My Wife, My Redemption novel Chapter 408

Chapter 408: Why did you become my assistant?

With that conclusion, Davis and Ethan left the estate, heading straight to the hospital.

For the past few days, this had become his routine and a loop he couldn’t break. From the hospital, he returned to the company. From the company, he returned to the hospital. And from the hospital, he went home, only to repeat the cycle the next day.

Davis had been desperately hopeful that Jessica would be awake by now.

But as the days slipped away, his hope was worn thin, shredded piece by piece until it felt almost cruel to cling to it yet he had no option than hope.

Julian had insisted on taking her back to Country Z for more intensive care, but Davis couldn’t bring himself to let go.

Instead, he had invited renowned doctors from different countries, each one giving the same diagnosis: suspected traumatic brain injury, resulting in a coma.

Several times, he had asked the same dreaded question...how she could be revived but the answer had always been the same: "In a few weeks."

Is it just weeks or an eternity? He had murmured. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

So with little or nothing to do to change the diagnosis.

Davis did what he could. He spent hours at her bedside, speaking to her softly, recounting their days together, reading out her business reports to her, even whispering his fears, all in the hope that the sound of his voice might stir her awake.

But the silence remained unbroken.

At this point, he had resigned himself to fate...to waiting, watching, hoping she would heal naturally.

Yet beneath the calm mask lingered his fear, fear of the unknown, fear of the worst case scenario.

"Will she really be okay?"

"Will she ever wake up?"

Meanwhile, every plan Jessica had carefully set in motion within the Allen Group was moving forward faster than expected.

The team of researchers slated to commence the new project was due to arrive the next day.

Richard had been diligent with her company, handling the affairs as usual that Davis found himself worrying less, at least on that front.

After the hospital visit, they drove to the company. With clear precision, the driver pulled up in the Allen Group parking lot.

Davis drew a deep breath, opened the door, stepped out, and walked straight to his private elevator.

As the elevator dinged open, he stepped into his office floor, passing the secretarial unit. Their greetings trailed after him, but he didn’t bother to respond.

When the office door shut behind him, murmurs rose immediately in his wake.

"Why do I feel the President hasn’t been happy for days?"

"Is the company facing any challenges we don’t know about?"

"I don’t think so, but he looks gloomy."

"Do you think his wife might be pressing for a divorce?"

"Divorce? That’s impossible."

"Nothing is impossible, you know."

"That can’t be! He handed her everything the Allen family had. Don’t you know she’s the largest shareholder now?"

"You better stop before you lose your job. His affairs aren’t for us to discuss."

With that, the conversation ended as they dispersed, each hurrying back to their desks.

Inside his office, Davis stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, his gaze fixed on the bright blue horizon where the sky stretched wide. His thoughts, however, were anything but steady.

After a long silence, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. His voice was clipped. "Meet me in my office."

Ending the call, he returned to his desk and settled down. He dialed another number. "Hello, I want to press charges."

"Press charges? Against who?" The calm voice of the Police Chief filtered through the phone.
