From Substitute To Queen novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87

The way he’d looked at me made my skin crawl. Like I was something he could just take.

When I kept refusing, he’d gotten nastier. Started following me to classes. Waiting outside my dorm. Making crude comments about what he wanted to do to

The worst incident happened on a Thursday night. I was walking back from the library when Mike appeared out of nowhere, blocking my path.

“Enough games, sweetheart. You and me are gonna have some fun whether you like it or not.”

I was terrified. Completely alone.

So I’d pulled out my phone and called Caelan in front of Mike, affectionately calling him “darling” and asking him to come pick me up, just so Mike would know I have a boyfriend.

That was a complete lie. Back then, Caelan and I were only in touch occasionally, but for some reason, he was the first person I thought to call.

The threat of another man showing up seemed to work. Mike sneered, but backed off, letting me escape back to my dorm. I never saw him on campus again and later heard he’d been expelled. I always assumed the dean had finally taken action.

But now, hearing Peter’s half-finished sentence about what Caelan had “done” to Mike…

“Sable?” Caelan’s voice pulled me back to the present. “Are you alright?”

I blinked, realizing everyone was staring at me.

“Caelan,” I said slowly, my voice tight with growing anxiety. “What exactly happened to Mike after that night?”

Caelan avoided my eyes, reaching for his own wine. “Nothing dramatic. The school handled it appropriately.”

“Appropriately how?” I pressed. “Because he didn’t just get kicked out, did he?”

The table had gone quiet. Leon was studying his napkin with sudden fascination. Scarlett looked between Caelan and me with confused concern.

“What kind of warning makes someone disappear like that?” I continued, my voice rising slightly.

Caelan finally met my gaze. “The kind that works.”

“That’s not an answer.”

He sighed, setting down his glass. “It’s in the past, Sable. Why does it matter now?”

“Because I want to know what you’re capable of. Mike was a piece of shit, but he was also just a stupid college kid. What did you do to him?”

Caelan’s POV

Damn Peter, saying whatever comes to mind when he’s drunk

The memory of that night crashed over me. I could still remember the terror in Sable’s voice when she called, the way my blood had turned to ice when I heard her say someone was bothering her.

I can’t let Sable know what I did that night. She’ll be scared of me.

I stayed silent.

Sable noticed my obvious reluctance immediately. She turned away from me to face Peter directly.

Chapter 87

‘Peter, you tell me what happened.”

Peter’s eyes darted to me, a clear plea for help in his expression. I deliberately looked away, focusing on my wine glass.

“I… uh…” Peter cleared his throat nervously. I can’t say anything if Caelan doesn’t give me permission.”

Sable’s amber eyes narrowed as she turned back to me. “Caelan. I want to know what happened. You can either tell me yourself, or you can let Peter tell me. But I’m not dropping this.”

The silence stretched between us. Leon and Scarlett watched the standoff with fascination.

Peter caught my expression and shook his head with a sigh. “Caelan, what’s the point of acting like this?”

I let out a resigned sigh and nodded. “Tell her.”

Leon immediately jumped in with his teasing. “Haha! Look at that! He really is whipped!”

Scarlett joined the chorus. “Sable isn’t even officially married into the family yet, and Caelan’s already completely under her thumb!”

I fixed them both with my coldest stare. “Are you two done?”

“Done, done,” Peter said with a laugh. “Now let me tell Sable the truth about what happened back then.”

Peter began his story, settling into his chair like he was preparing for a long tale. “That day we were in the middle of Alpha training, sweating our asses off.”

“Suddenly Caelan’s phone rang. The moment he saw your number, his whole demeanor changed.”

“He answered the call, and I heard your voice shaking on the other end, saying someone was harassing you.”

Hearing her frightened voice, I lost all rational thought instantly. That moment when pure rage had consumed every logical thought in my brain.

“Caelan didn’t even change out of his training clothes. He just grabbed me and ran for the car.”

“Twenty kilometers – he drove like a fucking maniac. I thought we were going to crash.”

Peter paused, glancing at Sable, “We got to your university, and Caelan was hunting like a bloodhound.”

“When we found that piece of shit Mike, he was bragging to his friends about his latest ‘conquest.””

Peter’s voice took on an exaggerated imitation of Mike’s arrogant tone. That little beauty was scared shitless by me, haha!”

Sable’s face went white at these words. Her hands clenched unconsciously into fists. I immediately reached over and took her hand, interlacing our fingers,

“The worst part is what came next, Peter continued.

Mike saw Caelan and had the balls to keep running his mouth.

He pointed at Cacian and said, so you’re the fake boyfriend?

“Then… Peter hesitated, looking at Sable. He said some things I don’t want to repeat

Sable steeled herself. Tell me I can handle it.”

Peter took a deep breath. He said he wanted to taste you, said you looked like a naive little virgin who’d never seen the world…”

Before he could finish, Scarlett slammed her hand on the table in fury. That fucking bastard!”

I squeezed Sable’s hand tighter, feeling the tremor that ran through her body.

‘Mike kept going. Said he was going to break you in properly’ and teach you what a real man feels like.”

“He described in detail what he wanted to do to you. Graphic shit that I won’t repeat because it’s too fucking disgusting.”

Leon’s jaw was clenched tight. “The guy was a complete psychopath.”

“When he said he was going to wait for you after your evening classes and ‘show you a good time whether you wanted it or not, that’s when Caelan snapped.”
