It wasn't a surprise in the slightest. The Lineages—even the Warlord ones—were the property of the Emperor Sanctum. They couldn't allow them to be so casually handed out.
If Genes had protections on them, how could a Lineage of this caliber not? After all, they had the chance to present people with Gold and even Legendary Genes for mastering them.
It was just that the Seals on these Lineages were far more complex and harder to implement. And, since they weren't family but instead members of the same organization, the restrictions also had to be looser by design. It was a necessary step. However... that didn't mean that the Lineage couldn't sense unauthorized usage.
If it was Sylas alone using them, it wouldn't make much of a difference. However, Sylas had broken these unspoken rules of the Sanctum not just once, but twice.
First, he modified the Scorpion Warlord Armor to allow Cassarae her own quasi Serpent Warlord Armor. It was a feat that Sylas was actually quite disgusted with right now, as he felt he could do so much better—especially since he had the real Serpent Warlord Armor Lineage with him now.
And second was, of course, Nosphaleen.
It had been a long while since the first thing happened, and Sylas hadn't gotten dinged for it. But the moment he did the same with the Whale Warlord Armor, Prione was supposedly contacted?
There were two possible explanations for this.
The first was the most obvious. The protections on their stronger Lineages would likewise be stronger. They were more interested in protecting the Whale Lineage than the Scorpion Lineage. Plus, Sylas had heavily modified the Scorpion Lineage Armor, so the aura might not have been too clear, making it more difficult to detect.
But then there was the second possibility.
Have I been found out? Sylas wondered, his gaze flickering.
The second possibility was that he had been reported.
The trouble was that reporting something like this wasn't so simple. If it was, Prione would have done it himself to get his Lineage back.
Just having the Lineages wasn't a crime, neither was Sylas using them. If it was, the Warlords would have never agreed to give them to him in the first place.
This path implied that someone was monitoring him well enough to sense him breaking the rules and then pass the information on to others.
But the implications of such a thing were so deep and hard to decipher that Sylas almost wanted to dismiss it outright.
The only reason he didn't was because whoever the mastermind behind the Purvon Thryskai Clan was, was an intellect maybe on par with his own.
If Sylas could find their tail, then was it really so impossible for them to find his own? Sylas stood in silence for a long while.
