"Seriously? Do you two have to flirt at a time like this?" Randy grumbled.

Marion glanced at Ivan. "You can stay."

Then he led Debra back upstairs.

Randy frowned. "These two have zero sense of danger."

Erica patted his shoulder. "Feels like we're the only ones worried here."

"No kidding." Randy shook his head helplessly. "What kind of people are these?"

Upstairs, Debra said, "It looks like Andrew is trying to cover for Ivan."

"You saw it?" Marion asked.

"It's so obvious. I'm not that stupid," Debra replied.

Marion led her into their room. "The others are not stupid either. They're just playing along with what Andrew said."

"So, does that mean Ivan really has a problem?"

"Yeah."

"And Andrew wants us to pretend we don't know?"

"Exactly. I think he's trying to set up a scheme to turn Ivan from a foe to an ally."

"How do we turn him? Reason with him? Appeal to his emotions? Or..."

"Emotions," Marion mused. "If they can exploit your soft heart to infiltrate us, we'll turn the trick against them."

Downstairs, Ivan glanced at Erica, who was holding a cupcake and staring at him.

"Miss Mathis, is there something you need?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing much," Erica replied with a smile. "I just thought, at your age, working alone here must be tough. So, I made this cake to cheer you up."

Ivan looked at the cake, noting the logo of a well-known bakery stamped on it.

He said flatly, "Miss Mathis, if you're still suspicious of me, just ask directly. You don't need to go through all this trouble."

"I'm not suspicious of you," Erica smiled, her tone sincere. "We wrongly accused you earlier, and I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again."

Randy chimed in, "Boys don't like cake. They like cars."

He tossed his car keys to Ivan. "From now on, my car is yours. I know you're underage, and your parents probably don't allow you to drive at home. You're free now. Drive my car and feel at home here."
