"You're not part of the Houston family. Stay out of our business," one of the shareholders snapped.
"Exactly," another chimed in. "Your ancestors were just deputies. You have no right to speak here."
Randy's face darkened. "Say that again?"
Marion raised a hand. "So, you want me to step down?"
"We want an election," Corey said. "The Houston family has had its time at the helm. As shareholders, we're obliged to choose the most suitable candidate. It doesn't have to be you, Marion."
"Let's vote, then." Marion shrugged.
Randy was shocked. "Are you serious? These people are just trying to force you out. You can't..."
"If it's an election, let's have it," Marion said, tapping the table.
A group of shareholders then filed into the room. They were all old associates of the Houston family, loyalists who had stood by Caleb for years. They lined up behind Marion as a show of support.
Corey scoffed, "There are ten of us, and we control 55% of the shares. What's the point of calling in these people?"
Marion slowly reached to his waist and pulled out a gun. Those behind Corey visibly flinched.
With practiced ease, Marion loaded a bullet, stood up, and walked over to them.
"Everyone knows I prefer to handle things directly," he said, cocking the gun and pressing the barrel against one shareholder's temple. "The election starts now. You go first."
The shareholder trembled, his face turning ashen.
Marion's notorious reputation alone instilled fear. Everyone in Seamar City and beyond knew what he was capable of. If he wanted someone dead, he wouldn't hesitate.
In less than a minute, the balance of power in the room had completely shifted. Finally, Marion's gun was aimed at Corey.
Corey swallowed hard, his bravado faltering. "I don't believe you have the guts to pull the trigger."
Marion's expression didn't change. "It's 16 to 1. Your vote doesn't matter to me."
"You..."
A gunshot rang out, cutting Corey off mid-sentence. A bloodied hole appeared in the center of his forehead.
The shareholders screamed in shock and ducked for cover. No one had expected Marion to really shoot.
