"Something happened at the company?" Debra asked.

"It's Michael," Ben replied. "He got attacked yesterday, and someone anonymously reported him for illegal transactions. The police detained him, and it's turning into a huge mess. We just got word, and the media is about to run wild with it. If this blows up, it'll be a massive hit for us. And if Michael gets into trouble, we could be facing a sky-high breach-of-contract penalty."

Debra frowned. "Why are you just finding out about this today?"

"The news didn't reach us in time. Apparently, Michael was attacked last night, and right after that, the police took him in." Ben paused and added, "The main issue is that, with everything going on between you and Mr. Houston, the PR team has been working non-stop to contain the damage. That's slowed down our intelligence networks."

"I'll figure something out."

"We need to move fast. If this keeps snowballing, it's only going to get harder to control."

"How long can you keep a lid on the media?"

"Less than 24 hours."

As soon as she got the answer, Debra hung up.

"What's going on?" Liza rarely saw her this tense.

"The company's in trouble," Debra replied. "Liza, does your family have any pull with overseas law enforcement?"

With that, she started dialing, but Debra couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

'Why Michael? Why now? Has he uncovered something there? Or is this just a diversion?' she wondered.

When the call ended, Liza found Debra lost in thought.

"Relax," she said. "My dad is sending people to check with the police. If it turns out to be an illegal detainment, they'll get him out. Even if it's not, the police won't dare hold onto him once my dad steps in."

Debra's frown didn't ease. "This isn't that simple. I have a feeling that not even your father can get Michael out of this one."
