Michael raised an eyebrow. "My plan never included you. Does our master know you snuck here from Orkgate? And you've got the nerve to question me?"

Lara glared at him, her body aching from the burns. Her face twisted with anger.

"Take Miss Sharp back for treatment. It will take two hours to get back, so she'll have to tough it out," Michael ordered, unfazed.

Before leaving with his crew, he lamented sanctimoniously, "Such a shame, ruining a pretty face like that."

Lara clenched her fists, incandescent with rage.

In the ambulance, Debra coughed up another mouthful of blood. It splattered right onto William's white coat.

"Aw." William almost griped about the mess, holding back only at the sight of her bad condition.

He had to save her, no matter what. It was a promise he'd made to Andrew.

He didn't even want to think about what would happen to him if Debra didn't make it today.

"Maybe another shot of painkiller? We've gotta get that bullet out fast," a medic suggested.

"You think I don't know that?" William grumbled. "The wound is near her heart. It's tricky."

But his hands didn't stop moving.

The surgery conditions sucked, but there was no choice. They had to patch her up and dig out the bullet as soon as possible.

They were in the mountains, far from the hospital. Leaving the bullet in too long risked infection, and that'd be a bigger mess.

The staff had gotten a heads-up from Marion, rushing Debra inside as soon as they arrived.

William stumbled out of the ambulance, his legs shaky.

"Wait. I'm a patient too," he said, spent after two hours of intense work.

He needed a big bed to rest on.

Marion and the others pulled up to the hospital entrance.

Erica flung open the car door and stormed over to William. She asked urgently, "How is Debra? Why are you here alone? Where is she? Did they take her in? Say something."

"Chill," William said. "I just finished surgery. How did you guys get here so fast?"
