Sunlight stung. Marion sat by her, sleepless.
"Where is Andrew?" she croaked.
Silence answered.
Drake, Erica, and Randy were also there, but no one spoke.
"Marion?" she insisted, her voice shaky.
He couldn't meet her eyes. She turned to Erica, who looked crushed despite her front.
"Erica?"
"I..."
Randy stammered, "Why don't you get more rest first?"
"He's in the morgue," Drake cut in. "Wanna go and see him?"
The air froze.
The rims of her eyes reddened. She turned away, choking down her tears. "No."
He sat beside her on the floor and leaned against the bed. His pain was no less than hers.
"From Fermin," he said, handing her a pink box.
She found it familiar, then remembered it was made by Andrew when they were kids.
Inside lay a folded drawing. She opened it to see a girl holding a taller boy's hand. It was her doodle.
She had wanted to stay with him forever. He had been her rock.
"Go see him," Jordan said. "It will settle things. He knew this day was coming. Thought if you didn't remember, you wouldn't hurt. Worked till that crash brought it all back."
