Solomon smirked and leaned against the wall, ready to watch the fun.

Lillian needed a lesson. Otherwise, she'd think her fists could fix everything.

"I messed up," she muttered, hanging her head. "Won't happen again."

At home, Debra had her back, and Marion had Debra's. That made her top dog. As long as she didn't tick off Debra, Marion wouldn't be too hard on her.

Debra sighed, glancing at Marion. "What do we do, honey? She's owning it. Ground her or let it slide?"

"Or leave her to me," a voice suddenly cut in.

Lillian's stomach dropped.

Juan had slipped in at some point, holding a schedule.

Marion's brow arched. "That's my kid. Since when is she your project?"

Lillian nodded, totally agreeing with it.

Juan was unfazed. "I'm her godfather."

"Godfather, not father," Marion shot back.

"If Lillian wants, I can step up," Juan said, cool as ice.

The room crackled with tension. Debra stepped in. "You two, back off. I'm handling her."

"Ditch class?" Debra's face darkened.

Lillian froze, zipping her mouth. Debra huffed, "This guy is leading you astray."

She whipped out her phone, ready to call him. Lillian backpedaled, "I mean, I didn't wanna go. School's boring. It wasn't his fault."

"Not his fault?" Debra snorted. "What if he snatched you?"

Lillian blinked, surprised that her mother wasn't sweating her grades.

Debra dialed Drake, her finger jabbing the screen. The call connected, and she went off. "You taught Lillian to skip classes? Is your life in Orkgate too cozy?"
