Skylar narrowed his eyes and lifted the hand holding the umbrella with a subtle push upward.
Seemingly with a will of its own, the umbrella floated upward slightly and held itself still above the two of them, shielding them perfectly from the rain.
Under its cover, Skylar gently unfolded Olivia's palm into his own and swiftly formed a mudra with his free hand.
"Pure blood, do not spill; impure blood, do not rise…"
With the spell, a stream of spiritual energy spread forth. Olivia felt a warm current envelop her stinging wound, and when she looked down at it, the once-torn skin had slowly begun to mend. The blood marks gradually faded.
Though not fully restored, the healed wound was no longer at risk of infection.
Olivia had firmly told herself to draw the line with Skylar, but now, her heart was thudding wildly again because of his simple, careful act.
She bit her lip hard and silently cursed herself for being so soft. It was just a bit of mystic arts technique, and it wasn't like Skylar was the only one in the world who could do it.
Shannon could do it too! And so could Elliot!
She, Olivia Bailes, was not some inexperienced, wide-eyed newbie. She wasn't going to be won over by such a small trick!
With that thought, her expression stiffened even more. When Skylar looked at her again, she had plastered on a polite, professional smile. "Thank you, Mr Rutherford. You may leave now."
Staring at the smile on her face, Skylar fell silent for a moment before saying, "Don't smile like that. It looks fake."
Having seen her genuine, carefree smile, he could instantly tell this was a fake. He'd never want to see her force that smile at him.
Olivia's lips stiffened after hearing his comment. She barely resisted the urge to snap back at him.
In the MPV, Olivia was wrapped in a blanket and clutched a mug of hot chocolate while Eleanor dried her hair with a blow dryer.
She looked deeply annoyed. "Why is he even here? Is he just trying to mess with me?"
If it hadn't been for Skylar, she would definitely have nailed the take on the first try.
"Achoo!" She sneezed again and murmured frustratedly, "Seriously, who apologizes like that?"
Eleanor silently listened to her vent and wasn't sure how to respond. Seeing Olivia's hair was nearly dry, she turned off the dryer and offered, "I'll get you some medicine. You don't really wanna get sick."
As she turned to open the door, something seemed to swoop in from below her feet. She yelped and spun around to freeze along with Olivia.
Standing right in front of Olivia was a paper figure delicately folded from a talisman. On its back, it seemed to be carrying a small box of medicine.
