At that time, Tessa was filled with anger. She was angry at Samuel for remarrying and arranging a marriage for her without consulting her first. Hence, she was adamant about cutting ties with Samuel.

She knew that once she severed ties with Samuel, she would no longer be the heiress of the Yates family.

When that happened, she would no longer be in the same social class as her friends, and she would eventually have to pay back all the money she had taken from them.
