Chapter 100

The past few years flashed through Carter’s mind like a reel he couldn’t stop.

The Jamison family needed Rhea. He also needed Rhea.

Aiden rushed over, only to find Carter looking completely shattered. He didn’t even know how to start comforting him. He said, Carter, you shouldn’t keep defending Lauren. Put yourself in Rhea’s shoes. How would you feel?

Carter thought of George. Even the possibility that Rhea liked George had made him lose it.

He looked up and asked, Why’d you let her go through with the surgery?

It’s not like I get to decide for her!Aiden was exasperated.

After a pause, he added, But it’s not too late. If you cut Lauren off completely, Rhea might forgive you. After all, she loves you. She was even willing to be a stepmother to your kids. You can’t ignore that fact.

Carter turned to stare at the doors to the operating room.

His whole body trembled. He seemed to be truly scared.

When Rhea opened her eyes, she realized that she wasn’t at the hospital anymore. She was at the postpartum recovery center.

She wondered if she had lost the baby in the fall.

A sharp pain stabbed through her chest. She really lost her baby.

Rhea closed her eyes, trying to smother the grief.

Rhea

Was that Carter’s voice?

She opened her eyes again and saw him. His eyes were red and glassy. This was the first time she had seen Carter cry,

Carter stood by the bedside and said, I’m sorry.

They had lost the baby because of him.

Rhea gave a faint smile. Don’t be. I didn’t want it anyway.

Chapter 100

Carter’s chest ached. Just focus on recovering. We can talk after that.

There’s nothing to talk about. I don’t want your money. I just want a divorce.

Without needing to fight over assets, the divorce would go through quickly. But even if they did split things, how much would there really be to divide?

From the very beginning, what she really wanted was to destroy everything Carter had. His entire fortune was the only thing that could compensate for all she had given up over the years.

If they had just grown apart, she wouldn’t have gone this far.

But that wasn’t the case. He had been using her all along. And yet, he had the nerve to turn it around on her and hurt her so deeply.

If I told you that I’d make Lauren leave for good, could we still talk?

Rhea looked at him coldly and said, You already said that once. But she’s still living in that house.

Outside the room, Lauren felt like her blood was running backward in her veins.

She had gone out of her way to call Aiden and get the address, but she never expected to hear something like this when she arrived.

Carter was actually willing to give her up?

Lauren didn’t push the door open. Instead, she turned and walked away.

She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice the two striking men stepping out of the elevator across from her.

Back inside the room, Carter asked, So you’re really set on the divorce?

His pride only let him beg once.

Rhea didn’t want to say anything more. She just said, I’ll file for it once I’m recovered.

Carter sneered, Fine. However, I hope that you stick to your word and don’t take my money. I guess this is for the best. Once we’re apart, at least the kids can have their birth mother around. It’s better than growing up in a broken home.
