After some thought, Carter said, “Don’t refer to yourself as my fiancee in the future,”

Since Rhea had already revealed their relationship, it would be disadvantageous to him if Lauren told everyone that she was his fiancee.

Her eyes widened slightly. Nevertheless, she said, “Alright, I understand.”

Then, she softened her voice. “Carter, do you still love me?”

He pursed his lips without responding. For a moment, he found that he couldn’t answer the question.

“If you still have feelings for me, there’s no need for us to waste time, especially since our kids are already at this age. Let’s get married, settle down, and work hard together to carve out our place in Draventh. I’ll use the connections my parents left behind to help you, and we’ll come out on top one day,” Lauren said frankly.

Carter furrowed his brows. He knew what she was getting at.

At his silence, Lauren tentatively slipped a hand underneath his silk pajama top and pressed it to his abdomen. Then, she slowly but surely moved it upward. It was obvious that she wanted to seduce

him.

He abruptly sat up. “Lauren!”

His reaction frightened her.

Carter couldn’t help thinking of the love bites he’d seen peppered on Lauren’s skin the other day. His stomach churned, and he said, “If you don’t want to return to your room, I’ll sleep elsewhere. Goodnight.”

Then, he got out of bed, clambered into his wheelchair with difficulty, and left.

Lauren was left alone in the empty bedroom. She stared at the closed door before pounding a fist on the mattress. Her eyes were no longer tender and filled with grievance. All that was there was anger and ruthlessness. She was starting to wonder whether Carter had become impotent.

She was desperate to get pregnant again. She was sure that with three kids between them, Carter wouldn’t ever leave her for Rhea.

Meanwhile, Carter, who had gone to a guest room, smoked a cigarette. He had the vague sense that Lauren was no longer the same person she used to be, but he didn’t dwell on it.

The women wouldn’t have been there that day if not for their husbands telling them to. They all knew about what had gone down during Priscilla’s birthday celebration, and they were well aware that Lauren had ruined Rhea’s marriage. If possible, they didn’t want to have anything to do with
