One of the business owners tested the waters. “Mr. Ravelle, is he your son–in–law?”
The room fell completely silent. Everyone wanted to hear Liam’s answer.
If he acknowledged Carter as his son–in–law, they would have to treat Carter with a bit more respect. After all, Rhea was the Ravelle family’s only daughter.
“Yes,” Liam replied, smiling.
Carter was surprised, and a flicker of excitement stirred within him.
Nathan, however, kept his eyes fixed on Liam.
Carter was about to seize the moment to say more, but Liam looked directly at him and continued, ” If you hadn’t called me just now, I wouldn’t have even recognized you. But that’s on me. I didn’t teach my daughter properly. Six years of marriage, and she’s never even brought you home.”
The expressions around the room shifted.
Carter felt his scalp prickle.

Smiling, Liam addressed the crowd, “We’ve all been friends for years, so I won’t hide anything. My daughter isn’t interested in gold or jewels. She loves taking care of the home. Since her marriage, she has devoted herself entirely to the household and raising the two children. She rarely had time to
return to Draventh.”
The crowd processed his words, each with their own thoughts.
Liam went on, “A few days ago, my wife and I met the kids. Honestly, even if they weren’t my biological grandchildren, I’d still adore them. They’re so kind and thoughtful. Clearly, they were raised by Rhea herself. Please don’t laugh at me. I’m getting older. I just enjoy seeing my children and grandchildren around.”
With just a few words, Liam had recounted the past, yet he never mentioned explicitly that Carter had done anything wrong.
Rhea had spent six years raising Carter’s children, while Carter himself had never paid a visit to his in–laws. How could anyone blame Liam for not recognizing him? And yet, Carter had the audacity to address him by his first name like they were close?
Someone quickly chimed in, “Mr. Ravelle, you’re a blessed man. I’m sure that you’ll have many grandchildren surrounding you.”
“Exactly. Your two children are clearly blessed. It’s only a matter of time before your house is full of grandchildren. If anything, the only worry is that you might not have enough time for all of them.”

Carter had nothing to say. After what Liam had said, anything he said would come off wrong.
Liam looked down at him. “Don’t worry. I’ll acknowledge you as long as you’re my son–in–law. Just tell me if there’s anything in Draventh you find difficult.”
Everyone in the room understood the implication.
As long as Carter remained the Ravelle family’s son–in–law, no one would dare challenge him. But the day he wasn’t, that would be a different story.
Liam had shut down every single word Carter tried to say.
From now on, no matter what happened between Carter and the Ravelle family–or how messy it got -no one would blame the Ravelles.
Outsiders would only say that Carter was disrespectful to his in–laws and even brazen enough to betray their cherished daughter.
Liam then stepped aside to chat with Jack.
Late at night, Liam prepared to leave. “Nathan,” he called.
“Yes, Dad?”
“Are you coming home with me?”
Rhea stood. “Let’s go, Dad.”
