“Rhea,” Carter called out.
Rhea had just finished putting the children to sleep in the kids‘ room.
“You’re free tomorrow, right?” she asked.
Carter knew that she was planning to go to the courthouse for their divorce.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. “I need to take this,” he said before stepping out of the room.
“Hello? Uncle Tyler?”
Carter’s second uncle, Tyler Jamison, went straight to the point. “Carter, we’re in Colburn. Mia hasn’t been feeling well, so we brought her here for a checkup. Do you think we could stay with you for a few days?”
Since childhood, Tyler had always treated Carter the best.
However, after the Jamison family went bankrupt, Tyler and his wife, Leah Baxter, had no choice but to return to their hometown with their daughter, Mia Jamison.
Now that Carter was back on his feet, naturally, he would want to help them however he could.
“When will you arrive? I’ll send someone to pick you up,” Carter offered.
“No need for that. We’re almost there,” Tyler replied.
After hanging up the phone, Carter called Devan over and told him to get ready a few guest rooms.
“There’s only one guest room left, Mr. Jamison,” Devan said.
The house had a total of nine bedrooms.
The master bedroom and the kids‘ room took up three. The household staff occupied three.
Lauren and Chloe didn’t seem to be leaving that night, taking up two more. Thus, only one room remained.
Lauren saw them talking and asked, “What’s going on?”
Devan lowered his gaze and said, “Mr. Jamison’s uncle, Mr. Tyler, and his family are visiting tonight.”
“Tyler?” Lauren’s eyes lit up. “Is Mia coming too? I haven’t seen her in years. We used to be so close.”
Upon hearing that, Carter immediately dismissed the idea of asking Lauren and Chloe to leave,
Mia and Lauren had indeed been quite close back in the day.
Carter suddenly had an idea. “Then Mia can stay with you tonight.”
“Of course!” Lauren agreed immediately, smiling.
“Sorry for the inconvenience,” Carter said.

“Not at all. I’ve missed her too. I just hope that you won’t blame me for what happened today.”
“You were just trying to help.”

Carter then returned to the kids‘ room.
Remembering what Rhea had said earlier, he said, “Uncle Tyler’s family will be here soon. Whatever’s going on between us, just don’t bring it up in front of them. We can talk after they leave.”
Talk? Was there anything left to talk about between them?
Rhea didn’t want to keep putting things off.
“The kids‘ school term is about to start. Let’s take care of this before then. I’ll also start explaining things to them during this time.”
As Carter looked at her, there was a chill in his gaze. “You seem to be in such a rush to divorce. Is there something going on?” 1
He couldn’t help but suspect that Rhea had someone else on her mind.
Just then, Devan approached them. “Mr. and Mrs. Jamison, Mr. Tyler and his family have arrived.”
Although she was reluctant, Rhea knew that she had to maintain appearances. So, she went downstairs with Carter to receive Tyler and his family.
“Uncle Tyler, Aunt Leah,” Carter greeted.
Before Rhea could even open her mouth, Lauren was already smiling and calling out, “Tyler! Leah!”
“And you are…?” Tyler looked puzzled.
“I’m Lauren!”
Tyler and Leah paused for a moment, then glanced over at their niece–in–law Rhea, who stood still and composed.
“Ah, the Thayer family’s young lady.”
Tyler and his family stepped inside, carrying only a small amount of luggage.
Mia, now 27, was slender and graceful, with delicate features.
