It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life, and Kate had no intention of letting some crazy woman ruin it.
But Sylvia shook her head in refusal. "I won't get help."
Kate's anger flared. She yanked at her wrist with all her strength, but Sylvia's grip was shockingly strong.
After a few seconds of tugging, Sylvia suddenly let go.
"Ah!" Kate lost her balance and crashed to the ground, along with the gift Sylvia had given her.
Sylvia winced. "Oh no… I carefully picked that for you. It might be ruined now."
"Ms. Burton!" Kate's face flushed red with rage.
She scrambled to her feet and examined her dress. Fortunately, it wasn't damaged; it was just a little dirty.
"I don't think I've done something to offend you," Kate ground out through clenched teeth.
Sylvia just stared at her silently. After a few seconds, she shook her head slowly. "No, you haven't."
"Then please leave right now!" Kate snapped.
After saying that, she stormed through the side door and had it shut from the inside.
Sylvia looked at the closed door. "But your father has."
At that moment, Mikayla approached. "Ms. Burton, you…"
Sylvia glanced at her. "Do I look strange?"
Mikayla nodded. She could tell that Sylvia was deliberately acting like she had a screw loose. Normally, Sylvia wasn't this stubborn or strange.
Sylvia turned and walked down the steps. "Sometimes, you don't have to be completely normal."
"Sylvia?"
Cynthia quietly stepped out of a car, wearing a mask and carrying a gift.
Watching her approach, Sylvia let a hint of hurt show on her face.
"What's wrong? Didn't I give you the invitation? You could have gone in first," Cynthia said.
Mikayla glanced at Sylvia before explaining, "Ms. Burton just happened to run into Ms. Pearson. She sent her blessings and a gift, but…"
Following Mikayla's gaze, Cynthia saw a gift box scattered on the ground. It was Sylvia's gift to Kate.
Before coming over this morning, Sylvia had told Cynthia that she would prepare something for Kate to celebrate her engagement.
Who would have thought…
However, Cynthia wasn't surprised.
