Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Carter told himself that he could let Rhea have her moments of emotion. As long as she apologized for what happened that day, he would never mention the slap again.
However, Rhea looked at the guests‘ sycophantic faces with open mockery. The contempt in her eyes was plain
for all to see.
Mia caught that look and questioned, “What’s with that look? Are you looking down on our family?”
Just then, Devan glanced toward the door. “Excuse me, you are…?”
Everyone had been too busy criticizing Rhea to notice that a row of luxury cars had pulled up outside the Jamison residence.
Each car’s headlights beamed brightly, illuminating nearly half the neighborhood.
A line of sharply dressed men, all in uniform suits, stood at the front door. Each of them held an elegant gift box in their hands.
In perfect unison, they said, “Happy birthday, Ms. Ravelle.”
Rhea froze. Her eyes flicked toward one of the vehicles. She recognized it. It was Nathan’s secretary’s car.
Nathan…
Tears welled in Rhea’s eyes as she rushed out the door. However, she didn’t see Nathan.
In the distance, someone stepped out of another car. That silhouette and height…
George?
He walked toward Rhea through the lights of the headlights, a cigarette between his fingers.
Moments later, George’s face appeared before her.
For some reason, Rhea felt all her pent–up sorrow spill out at that moment. Her tears flowed freely.
George sighed, handed her a silk handkerchief, and said, “Cry all you want.”
Yet,
Rhea let out a quiet, bitter laugh.
Why did it feel like she ended up crying every time she saw George?
Meanwhile, inside the Jamison residence, Chloe latched onto this scene like it was some sort of scandal. “Who is that man handing her a handkerchief? Doesn’t he know that she’s married? That’s just inappropriate!”
Carter saw it too. His expression darkened visibly.
The men in suits entered the house. At their head was Anthony Gardner, Nathan’s executive secretary. He had come on Nathan’s orders to visit the Jamison family.
Anthony’s tone was frosty as he asked, “May I ask who you are?” He looked straight at Chloe.

Chapter 64
Mia snapped, “And who the hell are you?”
However, Anthony ignored her completely. Who was she to question someone from the Ravelle family?
He continued to stare at Chloe.
Chloe parted her lips to reply. “I–I’m the children’s maternal great–grandmother.”
Anthony’s presence was commanding. “Oh, so you share no ties with Ms. Ravelle? In that case, ma’am, you’d do well to watch your words.”
Carter finally spoke. “It’s quite late. Don’t you think just barging into someone’s home like this is inappropriate?
He could tell that the luxury cars parked outside weren’t ordinary. After all, they all had Draventh license plates. Carter brushed past Anthony and stepped outside. He said, “Mr. Snider.”
Rhea snapped out of it, her back still turned to him.
George subtly stepped in front of her, shielding her from Carter’s view. He looked at Carter and said, “Mr. Jamison, you seem to be in quite the mood.”
Carter smirked. “Not really. At least not enough to take an interest in someone else’s wife.”
The two men squared off, neither willing to take a step back.
Carter wasn’t intimidated by George’s business achievements. No matter how powerful Snider Group was, didn’t hold much sway in Colburn.
