Rhea couldn’t tell whether Carter was heartless or not. It seemed that he was heartless because he could treat her like this. But perhaps he wasn’t because he still cared about the baby who hadn’t even been born yet.

• She figured that it probably wasn’t out of love but possessiveness. He simply couldn’t stand the idea of his child not belonging to him.

Behind her, a voice as cold as ice cut through the air. “So that is the man you chose?”

Rhea’s chest tightened instantly.

Nathan walked over. His eyes were filled with both frustration and a tenderness he couldn’t hide.

“You gave up being an heiress for someone like him? Come back, and all of Draventh will be yours. That bastard Carter…”

Nathan was fuming. He pointed straight at George, who was strolling toward them from behind.” He’s not even half as decent as George!”

George blinked in confusion.

“George might have been wild back in the day, but at least he wasn’t a scumbag!”

George glanced at Nathan, then took Rhea by the wrist. “Since you’re back, I’ll buy you some good

food.‘

Crown Mansion was fine for business dinners, but it was way too stiff for friends to hang out at.

Nathan clenched his jaw. He felt so bad for Rhea that his eyes turned red.

If Liam and Ruby saw what happened that day, they would probably be furious enough to collapse on the spot.

“Carter, look.”

In the car, Lauren pointed toward the entrance of Crown Mansion.

George was holding Rhea by the wrist, and they were standing awfully close. He helped her into the

car.

The attendants bowed respectfully as they departed.

Lauren said, “Carter, I think that Rhea and Mr. Snider might really be-”

“Enough!” Carter’s rage surged. “What, she wants my kid to call him ‘Dad‘? Dream on!”

The best outcome would be for Rhea to give birth and hand the child over to him. But if he ever found out that she had other plans, he would never let that baby be born.

Lauren purposely said, “For a man like Mr. Snider to be so attentive to Rhea, they must’ve known . each other for quite some time.”

Carter’s whole body tensed with fury.

George was always there when Rhea needed him. A bond like that doesn’t form overnight. With that thought, Carter became certain that Rhea had betrayed him long ago.

Lauren continued, “Carter, calm down. We need to consider what’s really happening here. Doesn’t Mr. Snider work in the same industry as you? If that’s the case, then was he getting close to Rhea for some other reason?”

Was George using Rhea in a business rivalry?

Colburn was one of the top cities in the southern tri–state area. Even if Snider Group wanted to go after Jamison Group, they would have to tread carefully.

Because of what Lauren said, Carter was almost certain that George’s intentions with Rhea weren’t pure. However, that was secondary.

What he couldn’t accept most was the fact that Rhea had betrayed him. The things that she used to say about loving him now felt laughable. They made him sick.

He couldn’t believe that she had the nerve to criticize him when she was the one sneaking around. What right did she have to do that?

In the car, George said, “Don’t take Nathan’s words to heart.”

Rhea shook her head and said, “I’m fine.”

She knew that Nathan felt bad for her.

“I meant the part where he said I used to be wild.”

Rhea looked up, puzzled.
