Chapter 296 You Will Always Be My Wife
“Second floor?”
Moments later, a cool, annoyed woman’s voice cut through the noise.
Abel’s eyes
lit
up at the sound, all the coldness in his demeanor vanishing.
He stared longingly at that woman’s silhouette, as if nothing else existed.
Tess put away her phone and walked right over to their table.

The sight of her snapped Finn awake. He straightened up, his deep and dazed eyes fixed on
Tess.
“Tess…”
His voice was hoarse, drawn out, and laced with raw longing.
“You look sober enough.”
Tess didn’t even spare Finn a glance. Her attention went straight to Abel.
Abel’s grin burst to life, a wild, cocky spark dancing in his eyes.
“No, I’m definitely drunk.”
He winked at Tess, a big, goofy smile spreading across his face.
Their easy chemistry stung Finn like a slap to the face.
Fueled by liquor, Finn suddenly surged forward, reaching for Tess’s hand.
Abel noticed and tried to intercept, but Tess dodged aside first.
Finn’s fingers curled around nothing but air–like he was reaching for something he’d never hold again.
He looked up, dazed.
At last, Tess turned to look at him. But her eyes were icy–colder than she’d ever looked at a
stranger.
Finn tried to speak, but couldn’t get any words out. It was as if too many words were stuck in

his throat.
Tess looked away. “Since you’re somber, you can go home on your own.”
She shot Abel a look, clearly aware of the tension between the two men.
Abel shook his head and looked at her with puppy eyes. “I drove here. I can’t drive myself home now.”
He looked up at her, his eyes pleading for sympathy.
But Tess didn’t fall for it. She simply smacked him lightly on the head. “Then call a ride.”
Abel slumped, mumbling a pitiful “Okay,” like a puppy with its tail between its legs.
Looking at his demeanor, Tess softened and ordered a ride from her phone. “I called one for you. Give him the address when he arrives.”
With her phone in hand, she turned to leave.
She hardly glanced at Finn the whole time.
Compared to Abel, Finn knew he’d lost this childish contest completely.
But he wasn’t willing to accept it.
Tess was supposed to be his wife. Why was she so concerned about someone else?
“Tess, we’re still married! You’re still my wife.”
Perhaps fueled by alcohol, Finn suddenly found a burst of strength. Drunk as he was, he shot to his feet and grabbed Tess’s wrist.
He moved so quickly that even Abel was caught off guard.
Tess stopped in her tracks and finally turned around, fixing her gaze on him.
For once, her eyes were focused entirely on him. But the look she gave was cold and unfamiliar, as if she were staring at a stranger.
Finn felt his heart clench painfully, as if something had slammed into it.
“I’ll send the divorce papers soon.”
Her voice was flat as she looked down at Finn’s hand gripping her wrist.

Abel came over and placed his hand on Finn’s. “Uncle Finn, you’re wasted.
“Let her go.”
The two of them stood on the same side, staring Finn down.
Finn staggered. He was barely able to stand, but sheer pride kept him on his feet.

“I don’t care. I won’t sign them. You’ll always be Mrs. Lock. You will always be my wife.”
His voice was full of obsession and gloom, as if daring anyone to challenge him.
Tess’s face went ice cold, and Abel’s mood soured, too.
“Finn, you cheated and spread lies about me. Worse, you sided with your mistress to hurt me and Layla. After all these things you’ve done, what right do you have to keep me as your wife?”
Her laugh was chilly, her gaze cutting.
At that moment, all Tess wanted was to cut ties with him.
