Wang Jian of the Golden Edge Sect walked through the Azure Cloud Sect grounds, carefully observing the ongoing development while studying the countless guests. Each time he visited, the Azure Cloud Sect grew more and more incredible.
"Who else but the Azure Cloud Sect could gather so many people on such short notice," he murmured to himself, watching as even more visitors continued arriving. The sect had already been far beyond their league before, but now they existed in a completely different realm.
Even those ancient monsters from the central continent couldn’t ignore them anymore.
Still, this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. He smiled with quiet pride. "Looks like I made the right choice back then," he thought to himself.
Being allied with such a powerful sect brought enormous benefits. Even if the Golden Edge Sect eventually became absorbed into the Azure Cloud Sect as it expanded, he wouldn’t mind too much. Besides, given their current relationship, as long as they avoided offending the sect master, they had nothing to worry about. They might even receive additional advantages.
Suddenly, Wang Jian’s expression froze.
He glanced to his side - nothing. His daughter Xiuying had vanished.
"It’s over for the Golden Edge Sect. I’m sorry, ancestors!"
Wang Jian cried out, dropping to his knees dramatically. Passersby gave him strange looks but kept walking, wondering whose grandpa this might be.
Kneeling there, Wang Jian’s thoughts spiraled into despair. Everything was finished. Why had he brought his daughter here? Meiling had already warned him that Xiuying harbored feelings for the grand elder. Now they were all going to die.
"What are you doing?" a familiar voice reached his ears.
He slowly lifted his head. "Xiao Ying? Is that really you?" he asked in a shaking voice.
"Who else could it be?" Xiuying said dismissively, rushing toward him.
"Get up quickly, you’re embarrassing me," she said, tugging at his arms.
Once he was finally standing, she glanced around nervously in all directions before sighing with relief. She thought to herself that thankfully, the grand elder wasn’t around to see such a scene.
Wang Jian gripped his daughter by the shoulders.
"Xiuying, listen to me carefully. Forget about the grand elder. You two exist in completely different worlds," he said seriously.
Xiuying looked away. "So what? Does Li Yao also exist in the same world?" she whispered.
"Yes! Yes! She literally does," he replied. "Open your eyes, do you want our sect to be buried and forgotten?" he asked, shaking her gently.
"Sect Master Wang," Liu Feng called out as he approached the pair.
"Let’s discuss this later," Wang Jian whispered to his daughter before turning to face Liu Feng.
"Young Master Feng, I didn’t realize you were here as well," he said with a welcoming smile, cupping his fists in greeting.
"Many things happened," Liu Feng replied.
As he responded, Wang Jian noticed Li Mei walking beside him. He looked at Liu Feng and gave him a knowing smile.
Liu Feng frantically began waving his hands. "It’s not like that," he started to explain, but Wang Jian just smiled.
"It’s perfectly fine. I understand completely. Congratulations," he said.
"No, it’s..." Liu Feng tried to clarify, but Wang Jian simply nodded along without really listening, wearing that same smug smile.
"Never mind..." Liu Feng gave up with a sigh.
...
...
"~Do you see how good they look together? You should forget about him," Wang Jian said to his daughter through transmission.
"~Are you saying I wouldn’t look good with the Grand Elder? Are you saying I’m ugly?" she asked back.
"~That’s not it. My daughter is the most beautiful in the world, but some things, you just have to let go," he said.
Wang Jian wondered what had happened to his daughter.
Back then, she was so agreeable and cute, but ever since she first disagreed with him by running away from the arranged marriage, she hadn’t been the same. He thought to himself that the Grand Elder was indeed a good man and a genius with all sorts of skills, but when she had met him, he wasn’t quite at this level.
He wondered what the Grand Elder had used to capture her heart so completely.
"Father doesn’t get it at all. My senses don’t deceive me. Back then, I thought it was just a strange scent, but now, it’s different. What I sense isn’t something I can just give up," she thought, but she sighed.
She was just too weak to have it. In the end, only the strong could keep the treasure.
"~Fine, I give up. It was just a little crush anyway," she said.
"~I understand that you—wait, you give up?" he asked, not believing it. She nodded.
"~I knew my daughter would understand," he said with a smile.
Xiuying smiled too, but internally, she was scheming. She turned her eyes toward the altar where the couple stood with clasped hands.
"Is there a way to steal a treasure from a strong person?"
