Chapter 155 The Gifted Mentee
The room went still.
Edward let out a barking laugh. “You have to be kidding! Everybody knows Fuller Group partnered with Ultracare Hospital. How could they possibly-”
Before he could finish, the doctor flipped his phone around and shoved the screen inches from Edward’s face.
“Fuller Group Partners with Northern Hospital, Will Supply Best–in–Class International Equipment.”
Edward blinked in stunned silence. “How… How is this possible?”
Raine looked rattled as well. Fuller Group had already decided to work with Ultracare Hospital. Why would they change to Northern Hospital now?
Martha froze for a beat, then a pleased smile softened her face. “Nancy, did you know about this ahead of time? Is that why you brought me here?”
Nancy smiled softly. “I had a feeling Northern Hospital had more upside. It looks like I was right.”
They shared a quiet look that said more than words.
Martha’s approving look at Nancy made Raine dig her nails deep into her palm.
Nancy couldn’t possibly have seen this coming. It had to be dumb luck.
“That’s great and all, but Grandma can’t keep enduring this. I’ll look for Dr. Benny Gales,” Raine said earnestly.
“Dr. Benny Gales? The surgical genius?” Edward asked. “The one with a perfect success rate?”
Raine nodded primly. “That’s him. I met him through Alex, and I’ve learned a bit of medicine from Dr. Gales every now and
then.”
The room erupted in mutters of shock.
In the medicine world, Benny’s name carried unmatched weight and prestige.
Nancy looked at Raine, her gaze calm and steady. “I’ve never heard of Dr. Gales taking in a mentee.”
“What do you even know?” Edward jumped in. “Dr. Gales has always had a mentee. He just never made it public.”
His eyes lit up as he turned to Raine. “It turns out she was among us all this time. I never would’ve guessed that Raine was Dr. Gales‘ gifted mentee!”
Raine’s smile stiffened. She wasn’t Benny’s gifted mentee, not even close. She only knew Benny through Alex and had sat in on a few of his lectures.
Martha had struggled with a heart condition for years. Raine believed that if she could master medicine and cure her, Martha would surely make her the official heir.
Raine did indeed have some talent in medicine and had even earned a medical license, but she was far from the gifted mentee the rumors described.
“Are you really Dr. Gales‘ mentee?” asked the doctor who had just come in, looking at Raine with surprise.
Regina’s eyes lit up, and even Martha gave Raine a longer look.
Raine clenched and loosened her fists before she smiled. “Yes, but please keep it quiet.”
“Don’t worry, Raine. We understand. If people find out you’re Dr. Gales‘ mentee, they’ll be lining up at our door.” Edward beamed, his cheeks quivering with pride. “Raine, you’re outstanding!”
