Chapter 171 Secret Exposed
Fergus was at a loss for words, staring at Nancy, who was cutting the cake under the lights. She looked like a dazzling princess. And this woman was his sister!
He couldn’t even imagine how much prestige it would bring him if word ever got out.
“Nancy was adopted by an ordinary family. How could she possibly know someone like Yelena?” Raine’s soft voice broke the silence. “And not only that, but she even got Ms. Hawthorne to celebrate her birthday.
“Ms. Hawthorne must have many friends in Boraska, but do they all get the same treatment? How exactly did Nancy manage to pull it off? Did she beg Ms. Hawthorne and say something to make her feel sorry for her? That’s why Ms. Hawthorne flew over and threw her a banquet?”
Fergus suddenly jolted. “What you said makes sense. Nancy is from the lower class. How could she know someone like Yelena, a top-tier noble?”
Just a moment ago, he’d actually been fantasizing about telling people that Nancy was his sister! How stupid could he be? He’d almost let her fool him!
Regina and Andrew snapped back to reality. Andrew pondered, “Even so, the fact that Nancy knows Yelena is still beneficial for us.
He looked at them sternly. “None of you is allowed to disturb them. After today, all of you need to get along with Nancy!”
Regina nodded weakly, her face still pale.
Fergus sneered but reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Raine fumed inwardly, feeling that Andrew was only focused on power and influence.
She watched as Nancy finished cutting the cake to a round of applause, everyone crowding around
her.
Yelena and Hillary gazed at her with gentle admiration. And there she was, left in the dim corner, unnoticed by anyone.
No! How could this happen? She should be the one who was the center of attention and envy!
Jealousy burned in her chest, making her lose her reason, completely forgetting Andrew’s earlier
words.
Nancy began distributing the cake to the waiters, who then passed it around to everyone.
An interruption occurred as a glass of red wine was suddenly poured onto the cake, causing the expensive cake to lose some of its luster.
Yelena looked at Raine and slapped her across the face without hesitation. Her eyes, magnified behind her glasses, looked unusually cold.
Raine covered her face, disoriented from the blow. She never imagined that Yelena would slap her
directly.
“What is Raine doing?”
“Could she be jealous?”
“She actually thought Yelena came to celebrate her birthday. She’s so full of herself! Ridiculous!”
Raine’s eyes filled with tears, her vision blurring with unshed tears. She looked utterly pitiful. “Ms. Hawthorne, I don’t blame you for hitting me. It’s because you’ve been blinded by this woman! She deceived you!”
“I’m curious to know how my childhood best friend could have deceived me.” Yelena coldly looked at
Raine.
