Chapter 184 Seeing Raine’s True Colors

Gideon only spoke to Nancy over dinner, completely ignoring Alex.

Nancy, unlike him, couldn’t just pretend that Alex wasn’t there. She asked, “Are you and Raine very close?”

Alex lowered his gaze to his glass of water. After a few seconds, he quietly said, “She saved my life once.”

“So the only reason you’re with her is because she saved you?” Nancy pressed.

“I guess…” Alex wasn’t even sure anymore. At first, he’d thought Raine to be a good person. But after everything that had happened recently, he was starting to become confused.

Deep down, he knew she wasn’t the woman he thought she was. Since that was the case, should he really stay with her?

But every time that thought crept in, he remembered the moment she saved him.

His voice grew more resolute. “I know she’s done a lot of disappointing things lately, but she’s my savior, so I have to be more patient with her.”

Nancy narrowed her eyes, thinking he was someone who valued loyalty.

Unfortunately, Raine was going to drag him straight to ruin.

Nancy didn’t push the topic any further. After the three of them finished eating, Gideon suggested that they go shopping.

Alex stood politely. “Uncle Gideon, I’ll leave first, then.”

“Since you’re already here, you should come with us,” Nancy urged.

Alex instinctively glanced at Gideon. After seeing Gideon nod, he agreed to go with them.

“Alright.”

At Ocean Mall, Raine and Wendy deliberately bought armfuls of things.

Irene trailed behind them, her hands gripping the straps so tightly that deep red marks cut into her skin. Her face grew paler by the minute. She looked like an overworked mule, struggling to keep up, out of breath as she hobbled after them.

Finally, the two headed for the restroom.

Thinking she’d get to set the bags down for a moment, Irene was instead met with Raine’s sharp

look.

“Hold onto those bags. They’re full of designer stuff. If you get them dirty or damage them, don’t think I’ll let you off.”

Irene stood there, pale, watching them go inside. Her hands throbbed with pain. It felt like knives were cutting into her palms.

In the next instant, the bags were snatched right out of her hands. She immediately reached out to grab them back. “Hey! Why are you taking someone else’s things?”

The moment she raised her head, she froze at the familiar, striking face.

It was Alex.

He was in his usual plain white t-shirt and black pants. The outfit was nothing special, yet somehow, he still radiated an innate elegance he couldn’t hide.

Alex frowned. “What are you doing?”

She hesitated before answering, “I… I’m helping them carry their things.”

“Why are you the only one carrying all this?” His gaze swept over her slender figure, then lingered on her face. It was delicately beautiful, with eyes so luminous that they reminded him of a crystal – clear lake on a summer day.
