Chapter 48 Stayed Single
“Skylar, why aren’t you drinking?” Hillary questioned with a frown on her face. Even when
frowning, she seemed to give off a peculiar charm that struck a chord in Skylar’s heart.
Skylar glanced at her. “I’m not drinking. You got a problem with that?”
“You’re cheating. Mr. Fuller, just look at him!” Hillary complained to Gideon.
Skylar questioned back, “Who told you I had a girlfriend before?”
Hillary refused to believe him, arguing, “Do you even hear yourself? Stop lying.”
After all, Skylar was practically drowning in scandals.
“Hillary, how have you managed to survive in the entertainment industry when you can’t even read the room?” Skylar sneered.
Hillary furrowed her brow, oddly sensing that Skylar was telling the truth. Yet, she didn’t understand why Skylar allowed so many female celebrities to use his name for hype.
Unable to win against him, Hillary downed a glass without another word.
Skylar’s face instantly darkened. He asked with an insincere smile, “You dated someone before?”
“That’s right.”
“Hah! Who was the unlucky bloke?”
Hillary’s expression darkened. “Can’t you talk nicely for once? It’s no wonder you’ve never dated before. A man like you should stay away from innocent women.”
“Who did you date?” Skylar demanded while gazing at Hillary with an unreadable glint in his eyes.
Memories came flooding back to Hillary at Skylar’s question.

A few years later, she found a box of candy on the backyard bench one afternoon. Messy handwriting was scrawled on the wrapping. “Don’t cry,” the note read.
It was meant for her eyes only. As Hillary held the candy, warmth bloomed in her chest at the thought that someone had been quietly watching over her all this time.
From then on, Hillary would find a gift whenever she went to the backyard. To thank that person, she knitted a small yarn doll, leaving it on the bench. The next day, she realized it had been taken

Hillary was thrilled. At last, there was someone she could entrust her feelings to.

When she tried testing him, he didn’t admit it. However, there was something about him that made her believe that it was him.

They soon became the best of friends. Later, as she got busier with filming, she rarely went to the garden. After the gardener’s son left, the gifts and notes disappeared. That only made her more certain it had been him all along.
