“Raine, apologize to Nanette this instant!” someone shouted.
Raine’s face went pale. Just as Nancy stood, she caught sight of a familiar earring. A flash of disbelief shot through her mind. She reached out and knocked the hat off Nancy’s head.
Under the stage lights, Nancy’s flawlessly sculpted features were revealed.
“What is Raine doing?”
“Oh my God! Nanette is gorgeous!”
“No wonder she never showed her face. Now that I’ve seen it, I can’t look at anyone else the same way again.”
The three members of the Lidell family were stunned.
Fergus blinked. “W–Wait. Is that Nancy?”
Regina’s brows knitted tightly together as she gripped her dress. A complicated mix of
emotions flickered across her face.
Andrew immediately sat upright as he pushed his glasses up for a better view of the stage.
Just then, Raine seemed to collect herself. She laughed. “So that’s it. Nancy, you really went all out. You disguised yourself as Nanette just to keep me from winning!”
“You all know Nancy! She’s a department manager at Duran Corporation. She’s jealous of me, so she pretended to be Nanette to stop me from winning!” Raine pointed an accusing finger at Nancy.
Raine never expected Nancy to pretend to be Nanette. In her mind, Nancy was vicious and unbelievably stupid. After tonight, she would be torn apart by Nanette’s fans.
Nancy, however, remained composed after having her identity exposed. She responded in a cool voice, “If I’m just pretending to be Nanette, then where’s the real Nanette?”
Raine snapped out of her thoughts. “I’ll call my teacher right now!”
How could she have forgotten her cards? All she had to do was bring her teacher here, and Nancy’s lies would be exposed.
The line beeped in the silent hall.
Ten seconds passed, and eventually, the call went unanswered.
Raine tried again and again. On the final attempt, she was met with the notification that she had been blocked. Sweat dampened her palms, and her stomach dropped.
Chapter 70 The Piano Competition
212
“Can’t get through to her? I can prove my identity, though.” Nancy lifted her phone for the audience to see. On the screen was a freshly posted message from Nanette’s verified account.
“I don’t accept students.”
“Nancy is Nanette! She runs a business and plays the piano like a goddess. She’s perfect!”
“Raine’s a total idiot. I remember Nanette saying ages ago that she doesn’t take on students.”
“If I were Raine, I’d be looking for the nearest hole to crawl into.”
Raine stared at the post, frozen stiff. The words felt like a slap across her face. Mockery crashed over her from every direction. She could barely breathe.
Nancy was Nanette all along.
She couldn’t believe someone like Nancy could play such an elegant instrument so masterfully.
“So what if you’re Nanette?” Raine screamed. “That just proves you were targeting me from the start! You didn’t want me to win!”
