Chapter 15: Dancing
In a few days, we found ourselves in an exciting city… Seattle.
The client’s offices were huge, and just by looking at the space, I already had some ideas. I even dared to propose some options, and the client seemed quite happy with what I proposed.
To my surprise, Ethan had come out of nowhere and had certainly helped us improve our prospects. The next day, we could say the deal was done.
I couldn’t help but notice that Kate was constantly looking for Ethan as if he were a magnet. She commented on and praised what he said, agreed with him, and laughed at anything he said.
He didn’t seem to fall for her charms that easily, but he didn’t avoid her either. I felt a small discomfort growing inside me. It bothered me terribly, even more so because I didn’t want it to affect me…but it did.
As part of the new alliance between these two companies, we were invited to a nearby restaurant. It was almost a small celebration. I went to my hotel room, not that I brought special outfits for the occasion, but I managed to put together a good look with a dress and a jacket to protect me from the cold.
The place was amazing. The ceiling was so high, there were chandeliers with dim lighting in some places, and the velvet curtains were pulled back to let us see the big windows with a small terrace where I could see a panorama of the city at the end.
Ethan sat in front of me, looking happy but tired. He was in his formal suit, this time almost entirely black except for a dark shirt, while his hair was slicked back and the waves of his hair struggled to escape.
The night passed with toasts and more toasts that I accompanied by small sips from my glass of champagne. This was still my job, and it wouldn’t do to put on a show with a drunk Priscilla.
A little pop music started to play, and one by one, all the attendees got up to dance. Meanwhile, I saw Kate persuade a reluctant Ethan to dance
with her.
He looked lighter and less serious. I watched as she tried to hug him and get a little closer to him as she led him to a corner of the dance floor.
I was relegated to observing the couple. Kate was tall, with a gorgeous auburn hair that fell straight to the middle of her back. Her red dress was the perfect mix between elegant and sexy, highlighting all her attributes and accentuating her porcelain skin.
Her makeup and jewelry accessories were impeccable. Without a doubt, she came well–prepared for the occasion…and her intention seemed very, very clear. She moved gently to the music with great grace, while Ethan looked like a tower trying to move as best he could and keep up with her.
I took advantage and snuck to the terrace to see the place, not only out of curiosity, but to avoid seeing Kate and Ethan in all their glory. I couldn’t help but get annoyed at the sight of her perfect white hands reaching out to touch him. He looked uncomfortable but didn’t seem like he wanted to move away from her.
She was definitely pulling out all her attributes and skills to seduce him. I guess she’s beautiful, and she’s not just any girl; she surely has money and a perfect life with everything she needs, a pampered girl who gets everything she wants.
If I were her, I would also seek a powerful man’s attention; surely she has a chance with him. They looked like two models together; he was taller than her, both elegant. She moved her hair from side to side, dancing like those background dancers in a music video.
Sigh, I definitely don’t belong here.
Walking through the extension of the terrace for several minutes, with goosebumps from the cold of the night, I saw the city at night and imagined what was happening in each place, in each light turned on. After a while, I heard a voice that surprised me and brought me out of my thoughts.
*Running away again, miss?” I was startled to see Ethan behind me.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he told me while I regained my composure. The breeze moved his hair a little, and his eyes searched for me insistently.
“So, are you coming here to run away from the celebration?” he asked me, and I smiled a little.
“I just wanted to take the opportunity to enjoy the view. It’s really stunning… all the city,” I said, leaning on the railing. He came over and stood

close to me, our shoulders almost touching.
“I must say that this new client is really delighted. They liked your point of view and are looking forward to seeing the making me blush.
first drafts,” he told me,
His compliment seemed sincere, and coming from him, I must say that it made me feel so proud. We laughed a bit and talked about his impressions of the offices as we watched the stars, the lights, and the other buildings. You know… like a friends.
For a moment, I felt a little chill, I guess I should bring my coat.
“Do you want us to go back inside?” he asked me.
“I would prefer to stay here…and avoid the dancing part,” he told me.
And I here thought that Kate was achieving her goal when Ethan seemed to have been running away, like me.
“Don’t you like dancing?” I asked softly.
“I don’t like it, I don’t know how to dance, and I’d rather not,” he told me, half serious, half mocking.
Now that I think about it, I remember him watching Tommy and me dancing in the distance, in a corner with a bitter face, while we were rehearsing for Lily’s wedding.
“I love to dance, but the truth is that I’m not very good at dancing,” I confessed.
*I disagree… I’ve seen you dance…and you do it very well,” he told me, and I didn’t know if he was joking or flattering me again. He seemed to be particularly funny today.
“I thought you were going to tell me that…you were going to teach me,” he added with a sensual voice, and it was definitely a really good- humored Ethan. Like I haven’t seen him since I was a little girl.
“Ohhh absolutely not… I couldn’t teach you even if I wanted to,” I confessed. He leaned a little closer to me and whispered in my ear. My heart raced, and suddenly, I felt less cold.
“Maybe I’m not a lost cause,” he told me with a hoarse voice.
“Let’s see, this music… what would you do?” he said, and I felt goosebumps.
“Show me,” he asked, tempting me, looking me directly in the eyes. Wow, I really didn’t see this coming.
I looked at him a little amazed as he took my hands and led me near the entrance of the terrace, in a small corner where the music could be
heard.
Sweet music played softly and seductively, like that music you would hear in an old romantic black and white movie. For a couple of seconds, Í stood looking at him as if he had lost his mind, and it was possible that he had lost it, while without taking his eyes off me.
