Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 114

It suddenly dawned on Amelia—the holidays were just around the corner.

Every year, she’d spend Christmas with the Campbell family, then head back to Silver Oak Town to visit Mr. Boris Turner after Boxing Day.

But this year, she definitely wouldn’t be celebrating with the Campbells. Mr. Turner had told her he’d already made plans to spend the holidays with some old friends in Sunset City, so she shouldn’t worry about him. Whatever she’d wanted to say, she swallowed back down.

“Of course you’re coming home for the holidays!” Sophia said, as if it were obvious.

Sophia’s family was close-knit and warm. Amelia had met Mr. and Mrs. Taylor a few times—they were the kind of gentle, welcoming parents you’d hope for. Sophia added, “I’ll be done with work after the week before Christmas. We’ll go home together!”

Home. When Amelia heard that word, she couldn’t help feeling a pang of emptiness. It looked like she had a home, but nowhere truly felt like one.

She used to think any place Daniel was could be called home, but that had only ever been a carefully spun illusion. The moment she woke up from that dream, everything vanished.

On the eve of Christmas, Amelia received a call from an unknown number. It was Violet.

Miss Third Wheel didn’t even bother to hide her intentions. She cut straight to the chase: “When are you and Daniel getting divorced? Don’t tell me you’re backing out now.”

Amelia couldn’t tell if Violet had called to gloat or if she was genuinely clueless. “You’re sleeping with him every night and he tells you nothing? Do you two not talk at all in bed?”

“He’s not—” Violet abruptly bit off her reply. “Anyway, what’s going on with you and Daniel? Why hasn’t anything progressed?”

Amelia almost laughed at the absurdity. Now the mistress was urging the wife to hurry up with the divorce. “Violet, does Daniel know how shameless you’re being? Maybe you should keep up your little act—the whole innocent first love routine.”

Violet was momentarily lost for words.

“The divorce papers are ready,” Amelia said. “Daniel’s the one who refuses to sign. You’re barking up the wrong tree. If you’re so eager, maybe whisper in his ear and get him to actually sign the damn thing.”

As soon as she entered the ballroom, she saw him—Daniel, surrounded by people, standing out effortlessly with that calm, magnetic presence.

It was always like this. No matter where he went, this damn man was the center of attention.

He spotted her the moment she stepped inside.

A flash of surprise—almost delight—lit up Daniel’s dark eyes under the glow of the chandeliers. He nodded to the people around him, excused himself, and strode toward her, unable to hide his eagerness.

“What are you doing here?” His voice was warm, more than a little thrilled.

Amelia didn’t even look at him. Her eyes scanned the room. “Where’s Violet?”
