Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 128

It was clear now: Mr. Brown was the man of the hour. Amelia found herself completely blocked by Daniel’s broad shoulders, unable to catch even a glimpse of Mr. Brown; and from the other side, Mr. Brown couldn’t see her, either.

Amelia’s eyes had always been striking, icy and sharp, like a rose carved from frost—beautiful, but edged with thorns. In this moment, her gaze landed on Daniel, and the thorn seemed to drive straight into his eyes.

His friends could see Violet, but his own wife—Amelia—was told it was “inconvenient” for her to join.

She arched an eyebrow. “Your friend’s right over there. You really don’t want to introduce me? Is your Mrs. Campbell so unpresentable?”

Maybe it was the chill in her voice, or maybe something else, but Daniel’s expression turned cold as steel. His voice dropped, clipped and severe: “Didn’t you hear me tell you to head home first? Mrs. Campbell, you’re my wife in name only. That’s it. Understand?”

For a moment, Amelia was stunned.

Daniel had never spoken to her like this before. It was as if he’d become someone else—or maybe, this was his true self, the Daniel who was always decisive, ruthless, never sparing anyone.

Back then, perhaps there was still some hint of affection between them, so he’d kept his words soft, his temper gentle. But now? They were on the brink of divorce. What was left to care about?

“Go!” he barked.

The word jolted Amelia back to herself; anger flared up from deep inside. She picked up the bouquet of white chrysanthemums and hurled it at his face. “I don’t need you to tell me twice!”

“Here—white flowers for you two. May you drown in your sea of love, forever and ever!”

With that, she spun on her heel and strode into the elevator.

Petals scattered across the floor, the flowers abandoned. Daniel stared at the elevator doors, his eyes dark and unreadable, unmoving for a long time.

A friend walked over, clapped him on the shoulder, and teased, “Your wife certainly doesn’t lack personality.”

The gloom and chill around Daniel melted away in an instant, replaced by his usual irreverent smirk. “What can I do? We’re already married. Not like I can just call it off.”

Amelia, on her way home, felt almost eerily calm. Calmer than she’d ever been.

By midnight, the game was over. Amelia had won big, and Grandma Edith was so delighted she could barely stop grinning.

After the lively countdown, everyone headed their separate ways. The once bustling old house fell quiet, the sudden silence only making it feel more empty.

Grandma Edith, tired from the day’s excitement, waved a hand and started toward her room. Amelia called her and Mr. Ethan Campbell back.

“Grandma, Grandpa, I have something to say.”

She helped Edith settle on the sofa, and Ethan sat down beside her.

Amelia stepped back, knelt down, and bowed her head to the two elders.

Grandma Edith looked startled—hadn’t they already done this for New Year’s? Did she owe another red envelope?

Amelia met their puzzled eyes, her voice steady and clear. “Grandma, Grandpa, Daniel and I are getting a divorce. I hope you won’t try to stop us.”
