Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 167

The moment Sophia stepped out of Hermès, she let out a whoop of pure joy. Amelia’s eyes crinkled with laughter. “Happy?”

“Over the moon!” Sophia flung her arms around Amelia and planted a big, smacking kiss on her cheek, then rubbed her head against her like an overexcited puppy. “My luck must have skyrocketed. How did I end up with such an amazing best friend? You buy me presents and you’re absolutely adorable. Ugh, Amelia, how am I supposed to survive without you?”

Amelia chuckled. “Air is enough to keep you alive. Alright, now that we’ve got you a new bag, let’s pick out some proper suits. You’re about to be the boss of your own law firm—you can’t show up looking like a charity case.”

She didn’t stop at just one or two outfits, either. Amelia bought Sophia ten high-end spring and summer suits, and even pre-ordered a couple of pieces from a designer’s fall collection. Sophia was so overwhelmed she threw her arms around Amelia and sobbed with gratitude all over again.

When she finally stopped crying, she frowned. “Amelia, why do I feel like you’re a mom packing up her kid before sending them off to college?”

Amelia just smiled. “Nah. I just want you to have a good life.”

Even if I’m not around, you’ll still be okay.

With their shopping spree complete, Amelia suggested they swing by the grocery store.

Since the luxury shops were delivering everything straight to her place, their hands were free. Sophia pushed the cart, glancing sideways. “What’s with the sudden urge to cook?”

“Well, I just splurged with Paymaster Campbell’s money. Cooking him a meal will keep his conscience clear—and make it easier to dip into his wallet next time.”

Sophia gave her a thumbs-up, but then the realization hit her. “Wait, you moved back to Emerald Meadows?”

Amelia nodded. Sophia immediately abandoned the cart to start dialing. “If I’d known those bags were paid for with your sugar daddy’s money, I’d never have let you buy them! What’s the return policy? I’ll send them all back!”

Amelia locked her phone screen. “Relax. No sugar baby nonsense here. I’m squeaky clean.”

Sophia eyed her suspiciously. “Daniel doesn’t seem like the type who can keep things platonic. He’s got that pent-up, can’t-keep-his-hands-to-himself vibe.”

Truth was, Daniel did have a strong appetite for pleasure—but somehow, he’d managed to restrain himself. Or maybe not; after all, Amelia thought, he had other outlets. If he couldn’t get what he wanted at home, there was always the woman at the hospital.

“Did you have fun shopping today?” Daniel’s deep voice was warm, tinged with amusement.

Amelia’s back ached from standing so long. She dried her hands and rubbed her waist. “Regretting it already?”

“Not at all. My money is yours,” he replied smoothly.

She let out a cold laugh. Hers? So, does she get a say when he spends *her* money on his side chick?

Daniel switched topics. “Oh, by the way, I’ll be late tonight. Some bigwig from the military’s in town, and I just got called to dinner with him. But don’t worry, I won’t eat much—I’ll save my appetite for whatever you’re making.”

Was she disappointed? Maybe a little, but mostly she was used to it by now—used to being stood up.

Amelia’s laughter was light and clear as she dumped the neatly chopped bowl of aromatics straight into the trash. “Is that so? Good thing I didn’t bother cooking, then. Eat out tonight, Daniel. I’m feeling lazy.”
