Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 183

Amelia flinched as if something had stabbed her in the eye and tossed her phone aside.

The air inside the car suddenly grew thin, as if someone had sucked it out with a vacuum. Her stomach lurched, nausea rising fast and sharp. She couldn’t hold it back—she told the driver to pull over, stumbled out onto the curb, and doubled over as everything came up in a violent rush.

When Amelia returned to Emerald Meadows, her face was as pale as paper.

One of the housekeepers met her at the door, concern etched on her face. “Are you alright, Miss?”

Amelia waved her off. “Just not feeling well. I won’t be joining for dinner.”

The housekeeper brought her a glass of warm water and quietly left the room. Not long after, there was a gentle knock at the door.

Amelia hadn’t slept; she was simply too miserable.

“What is it?” she called, her voice hoarse.

“Sorry to disturb you, Miss,” the housekeeper replied. “There’s a courier outside with a package. He says you need to sign for it in person.”

Slipping her feet into her slippers, Amelia went out to meet the deliveryman. He handed her a small cardboard box—light as air in her palm.

She took it back to her room, tore off the tape, and found a digital recorder inside.

Sitting at her vanity, she stared at the device for a long moment, then finally decided to press play.

She was leaving anyway; the worst had already happened today. She wanted to see what else Violet could possibly use to hurt her.

Violet’s gentle voice floated out from the recorder.

“Daniel, do you like children?”

There was no way to see Daniel’s face, but his voice was as cold and indifferent as ever: “No. I don’t.”

“You don’t?” Violet paused, her tone soft. “What if Amelia was pregnant? Would you still not care for the child?”

The silence that followed was thick and heavy. Even Amelia found herself holding her breath.

“She won’t get pregnant,” Daniel replied.

“I’m just saying—if, hypothetically, she did. Would you look forward to having a child with her?”

This time, the pause stretched even longer.

“No,” he answered at last. “I wouldn’t.”

Why should her child be the one forced to bear the weight of being unwanted?

Maybe it was better not to let it happen. Maybe it was kinder to let this little one start over, to be born into a family where it would be loved and cherished from the very beginning.

Amelia threw the recorder in the trash, then, feeling that wasn’t enough, bundled the whole bag together and took it downstairs, tossing it in the main garbage bin.

When she came back, the housekeeper noticed she looked a little better. Amelia even managed a smile. “I actually feel hungry now. Could you make me some shrimp with celery and lemon pork ribs?”

She went back upstairs and pulled out her phone, comparing a few of the top private hospitals in the city.

Private hospitals were expensive, but their discretion was worth every penny. If you had the cash, they’d fit you in, no matter how urgent the procedure.

Amelia scheduled an appointment for a termination the next morning.

……

That night, Amelia had a nightmare.

In her dream, she was being dragged down, tangled in a mass of waterweed—alive and relentless—that wound around her ankles, then up her legs, her arms, her throat.
