Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 189

That rare, gentle kiss lingered with Daniel all day, leaving him floating, light and blissful, as if his heart were drifting high above the clouds.

Even when one of his subordinates made a rookie mistake, Daniel didn’t lose his cool. He simply smiled and told him to pay more attention next time.

Watching the easy grin on Daniel’s face, his assistant felt as if three sunflowers had bloomed right above his boss’s head, all turning eagerly toward the light.

“Mr. Campbell, you’re in a good mood today,” the assistant ventured.

Daniel shot him a look of mock disdain. “You’re single. You wouldn’t get it even if I told you.”

The assistant just smiled politely, silently cursing himself for even asking.

“Send me the recording of the afternoon meeting,” Daniel said. “I won’t be in the office later.”

With that, he dismissed his assistant and, without hesitation, texted Amelia.

His mind was already with her—he couldn’t possibly wait until evening.

Amelia was just arriving at the bakery when Daniel’s message popped up. The owner chuckled, “Ready to start baking?”

Glancing up after replying, Amelia shook her head. “Actually, I’d rather not. Would you mind making it for me?”

Daniel didn’t deserve a cake made by her own hands.

She carried the cake home a little while later, and Daniel arrived soon after.

“Did you make this cake?” he asked.

Inside the clear box sat a simple, elegant white cake with a little black plaque that read, “Happy Birthday.”

“I made it myself,” Amelia said, not batting an eye as she lied.

Daniel’s happiness was now beyond words. He took her hand, marveling, “How are you so amazing, Amelia? These talented hands can do anything—and they’re so soft, too.”

The man was clearly getting ideas. Amelia slipped her hand from his grasp. “Let’s eat. The housekeeper made a feast tonight.”

Daniel barely touched his food, spending most of dinner either piling food onto her plate or watching her with a hungry, wolfish gaze—as if he were a starving wolf waiting to devour the soft little rabbit beside him.

Just then, her phone rang. Daniel ignored it, but the ringtone kept blaring insistently. Seizing the chance, Amelia shoved him away. “Answer it already! It’s driving me crazy.”

Daniel reluctantly pulled back and reached for his phone.

Amelia glanced at the screen—and saw Violet’s name.

It was as if someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head. All her warmth vanished, and reason came flooding back.

Daniel didn’t answer, but he didn’t hang up, either. He switched his phone to silent and tossed it aside.

Amelia was surprised he’d ignore Violet’s call. Then again, she thought bitterly, men can let lust override their affections—but that doesn’t mean it means anything.

Daniel caught her chin and leaned in to kiss her again, but Amelia had already regained her composure. Even if she tried to fool herself, she just couldn’t do it.

She turned her head away, deliberately saying, “You’re really not going to answer? What if it’s important?”

Daniel kissed her cheek. “If there’s an emergency, she can call the police. If she’s sick, she can call a doctor. There’s nothing urgent I can’t handle myself.”
