Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 193

Only silence answered him.

Daniel’s breath shook in his chest. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to calm himself. No way. Amelia wouldn’t just leave. She loved to play games—she was probably just teasing him, right?

He stalked to the wall and flipped on every light in the house.

The lavish mansion glowed with brilliance, but the one person he wanted to see was nowhere in sight.

“Amelia!” Panic and anger crashed together inside him. A little mischief was fine, but this was too much.

His voice chilled with anger. “Enough already. Come out if you’re done.”

Maybe it was just too quiet, but his own words seemed to bounce off the walls and echo back at him in the vast living room.

But Amelia’s voice never answered.

Now he was really getting angry. “If I catch you, you’re in so much trouble!”

He stormed through the house, locking each room behind him as he checked—even the staff quarters weren’t spared.

His chest heaved, but he couldn’t tell if it was more from rage or fear.

“Amelia…” His bravado finally collapsed, his voice softening in defeat, almost pleading. “Please, come out. Let’s stop, okay? Please be good, just come out.”

Silence, again.

Daniel forced himself to face the truth he didn’t want to accept.

He hurried to the security monitors, scrubbing through the footage from ten minutes ago. There—her familiar figure, slipping out the door without a moment’s hesitation or a backward glance.

She hadn’t even looked back.

Daniel sped through the city, the play of light and shadow outside sharpening the hard lines of his jaw.

His phone was mounted on the dashboard. The second the call came in, he answered.

“Daniel, she’s gone. The cameras went down right where your wife disappeared—we’ve got nothing. Still haven’t found a trace!”

Daniel clenched his jaw, struggling to keep his voice steady. “So one camera’s down—there are others. The city’s surveillance system can catch a fly. You’re telling me you can’t find one person? Keep looking. Do whatever it takes. Find her!”

He nearly shouted the last words, wrenching the steering wheel hard to the left. The Maybach tore around the corner like a wild animal unleashed.

At that moment, a black sedan with tinted windows approached from the southwest, brushing past the Maybach as it sped by.

Inside the sedan, Oliver sat in the back seat, wallowing in heartbreak. He hadn’t even left yet, but the tears were already threatening to spill over.
