Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 207

Sophia had made a last-minute reservation, so the only seat left was one tucked away in the corner.

Even so, the spot was lovely—surrounded by lush greenery and fresh flowers, their scent lingering in the air and adding a gentle sweetness to the reunion.

Sophia could hardly believe this was real. She clung to Amelia, looking her up and down, eyes growing misty again.

Then, from behind Amelia, a small head peeked out, and a soft, sweet voice piped up, “Are you Mommy’s best friend?”

Mommy?

Sophia felt like she was on a rollercoaster, shooting from one emotional high to another. She glanced at Bunny, then at Amelia, frozen in shock.

It took her a while to finally stammer out, “Oh my god… You disappear for three years and come back with a kid? You’re something else, Amelia!”

Amelia bent down and settled Ruby into a high chair, feigning modesty. “It’s really nothing. Just an ordinary life, not much to mention.”

Sophia finally understood. Amelia always seemed so gentle and easygoing, but in truth, she had a mind of her own and could pull off big things without a word.

Ruby beamed and chirped, “Aunt Sophia, you’re so pretty!”

That did it for Sophia. All thoughts of anything else vanished as she immediately dug into her purse. “I didn’t bring a gift for you today, but will cash do?”

Ruby tugged her tiny backpack to her chest and unzipped it. “Ruby brought her own bag!”

Amelia shook her head. “She doesn’t know how to be polite.”

“Who wants her to be polite?” Sophia laughed, stuffing money into Ruby’s backpack, then cupping the little girl’s cheeks and giving her a kiss. Her heart felt even softer than cotton candy. “But this boldness—she sure didn’t get it from you.”

“She takes after her—”

“Okay.” Ruby pointed at a flower wall nearby. “Mom, can I go look at those flowers next to us? I promise I won’t go far.”

Amelia nodded. “Alright, just stay close.”

Ruby meant to listen—but then she spotted another child nearby holding a bright balloon and an ice cream cone, and her feet carried her over before she knew it.

“Can I have that?” she asked the boy, pointing at his balloon.

The boy, chubby and shy, stared at the balloon, then at Ruby’s face, saying nothing. He turned and walked away.

But Ruby wasn’t giving up that easily. After all, the nice people back home always said brave kids get to experience the world first. She trotted after him. “I really like that. Want to trade? I have something I can give you.”

Still, the boy said nothing. Just then, a server walked over, escorting him back to the booth. Smiling at Ruby, the server asked, “Hey there! Where’s your seat? Do you want someone to help you find your way back?”
