Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 228

“Did you do that on purpose?” Amelia fired the first shot as she rolled down her window.

Daniel replied with a mocking drawl. “Maybe you should open those beautiful eyes of yours and see for yourself—it was you who rear-ended me, not the other way around. Tell me, who’s being deliberate here?”

Amelia seethed. If the driver in front hadn’t braked so suddenly, she wouldn’t have crashed, but the truth was, she’d been distracted and slow to react. She was in the wrong, but she refused to back down.

“You slammed on your brakes just because you saw me behind you. Don’t pretend otherwise.”

Daniel leaned his elbow lazily on the window frame, bending down so they were eye to eye. “Ms. Turner, who do you think you are? I don’t have time to keep track of what car you drive, let alone care.”

Stung, Amelia kept a tight lid on her expression, then pulled out her phone. “How much for the paint job? I’ll transfer it to you.”

“Oh, do I look like I need your money?”

She couldn’t figure out his angle. “So you don’t want me to pay? Am I free to go?”

Daniel snorted. “In your dreams.”

The light turned green, but their cars sat stubbornly still, horns blaring in a rising chorus behind them.

Amelia scowled. “Let’s just call insurance. We’ll move our cars first and stop blocking everyone.”

Without hurrying, Daniel straightened up and strolled around to the passenger side of her car. He opened the door and slid right in.

“…Seriously?” Amelia’s perfectly arched brows knitted tighter. “I meant you should get in your own car.”

Daniel gave a theatrical “Ohhh,” as if it had just dawned on him. “Well, too late now. I’m already here, aren’t I?”

Amelia gripped the steering wheel. “You can still get out.”

Instead, Daniel reached for the seatbelt, clicking it in place with a loud snap that echoed in the cramped interior.

“Let’s go. How about we show some basic courtesy and stop wasting everyone’s time?”

The horns behind them rose to a fever pitch, and Amelia had no choice but to start the engine and drive forward.

She pulled over to a side street, out of traffic’s way. To her surprise, Daniel’s luxury sedan immediately pulled ahead, not even pretending to stop.

That did it. “So it’s money you want? Fine! I’ll wire you sixty million in a few days. Now, would you please get out?”

But Daniel just sat there, perfectly composed. “When did I say I wanted your money?”

“You literally just said I should pay you!” Amelia was losing her patience with his constant contradictions. “Daniel, if you want money, say so. If not, then don’t waste my time. What do you actually want?”

His dark eyes churned with unreadable emotion, and when he finally spoke, his voice was low.

“I want you to apologize.”

Amelia blinked. What for?

For rear-ending him?

“If an apology will settle this, fine.” If that was all it took to end this, she’d do it.

Daniel didn’t answer right away. He just looked at her, then added quietly, “And then you’ll have to make it up to me.”
