Daniel braced himself on either side of her, head tilted from the slap before he turned back, letting out a low, amused chuckle. “Guess now it’s symmetrical.”
She’d hit his left cheek in the bathtub, now his right.
Amelia clutched the towel tighter around herself, her eyes red and watery like a startled rabbit. “You bastard. That was assault.”
Daniel’s gaze drifted lazily down her exposed collarbone. “Didn’t go all the way. Doesn’t count as assault.”
“Attempted assault is still a crime.”
“Fine. Clean yourself up and call the cops,” he said, straightening up. He grabbed another towel and tossed it over her shoulders. “Hurry up. Last thing you need is catching a cold. You’ll need your strength if you plan to keep up with me.”
With that, he strode out.
Amelia waited a moment, making sure the brute wasn’t going to pull any more tricks, then slid down from the vanity.
Her legs nearly buckled beneath her. The aftershocks still trembled through her body. She gripped the sink for support, steadied herself, then locked the door and started to clean up.
Her clothes were in tatters—ripped so badly by a certain animal that they were unwearable. Her jeans were soaked, and her phone, submerged in water for too long, was dead. She had no choice but to slip into the hotel’s bathrobe for now.
When she stepped out of the bathroom, she locked eyes with that same animal—Daniel—who was also in a bathrobe.
He looked thoroughly refreshed, wrapped in a black robe, leaning against the bar with a glass of red wine in his hand. His tall, striking frame and those chiseled features—like a sculpture come to life—made him look like he belonged on the cover of a magazine.
White robe versus black robe. They stood on opposite sides of the room, silent and staring.
Daniel’s eyes swept over her, lingering on her flushed cheeks, steam still clinging to her skin. The corner of his mouth curled in a wicked grin. “Took your time in there. Don’t tell me you enjoyed yourself so much you went for round two.”
Amelia grabbed the tissue box from the nearby cabinet and flung it at him.
