A low chuckle escaped Daniel’s throat. “You think you don’t bite? There’s hardly a spot on me you haven’t sunk your teeth into.”
Amelia’s face flushed hot, her irritation spiking.
“Let go of me!”
She was never one to just take things lying down. Sometimes, when exhaustion and frustration hit their peak in bed, she’d use her last ounce of energy to bite him—wherever she could reach—just to vent her anger, to get back at him, even if only a little.
Daniel never got mad about it. He’d just laugh, his body gleaming with sweat, beads tracing down his abs as he grinned.
He finally released her, gaze lingering on her flushed earlobe. He couldn’t resist reaching up and giving it a gentle pinch. “Can we stop fighting now?”
Her ears were extra sensitive; his fingers made her feel weak and hot all over. She jerked her head away. “I’m not fighting with you. The divorce is something I’ve thought through.”
Daniel’s handsome features chilled in an instant. “If that’s your idea of deep thought, you’d be better off not thinking at all. Maybe use that time to get some sleep, see if it helps you grow a brain—or at least a backbone.”
He was vicious with words. Sometimes Amelia wondered if he’d been raised on poison instead of baby formula.
She knew she was no match for his tongue, so she didn’t bother arguing. “Just sign the papers. I’ll pick up the agreement from the office tomorrow.”
“I’ve got a bowling game with Mr. Jones from Quantum Dynamics tomorrow,” Daniel shot back with zero hesitation.
“All day?”
“Overnight.”
Who the hell bowls all night? Was he planning to drop dead in the bowling alley?
Amelia scowled. “Are you seriously going to keep stalling like this? Fine, bring the agreement with you. I’ll come find you at the—”
“I’m not here to say what you want to hear. You want sweet talk? Go find your precious Porcelain Doll.”
With that, she twisted the doorknob and strode out of the lounge.
She must have lost her mind, locking herself in a room with Daniel. It was no different from a little lamb scrubbing itself clean, then knocking on the big bad wolf’s door.
Outside, the moment the door opened, every head turned her way.
Her heart skipped a beat. Could they tell what had just happened? But then she realized their gazes weren’t fixed solely on her; they flickered back and forth between her and someone else.
Following their eyes, Amelia looked over.
Violet was sitting on the couch, staring at her with a blank, unreadable expression.
