Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 66

The big screen flickered to life—a vlog started to play.

Amelia’s face appeared first. Back then, she still had that unguarded, innocent brightness untouched by heartbreak. She wore her graduation gown, flashing a cheerful V-sign at the camera.

It was from the year she graduated.

The scene shifted. Now she sat hunched over her laptop, fingers flying across the keys—clearly swamped with work, though the people around her wouldn’t leave her alone.

A slender hand reached in, popping a peeled grape into her mouth, then a wedge of orange. After a while, perhaps growing impatient with feeding her, the hand started to pinch her cheek, playfully.

The familiar, exasperated-yet-tender voice teased, “Amelia, are you planning to spend your life married to that laptop?”

With a soft thud, the footage cut to gray. The faint sound of a stolen kiss lingered in the air.

Then there they were, out on the slopes. Daniel claimed he’d teach her to ski, but ended up strapping a silly little turtle-shaped pad to her backside for protection and leaving her to fend for herself. He stood off to the side, smirking at her awkward attempts.

Annoyed, Amelia turned to look for an instructor. Daniel’s expression changed instantly—he scooped her up and whisked her down the hill himself, her laughter and squeals echoing in the cold, sweet air.

The scene shifted again: a gentle breeze by the seaside, sunlight scattering like diamonds on the waves. Through the camera lens, Amelia watched Daniel with eyes full of wonder, as if she were gazing at the stars and the endless sea.

So many memories, so many moments tucked away deep in her mind. The vlog was like a key, unlocking all those intense and honeyed recollections she’d tried to forget.

She realized, maybe for the first time, just how many sweet moments she and Daniel had once shared.

Back then, their love was like a flower in early bloom—delicate, fragrant, full of promise. In those days, she believed nothing could be better than walking through life hand in hand with him.

Amelia found herself adrift, lost in the current of the past.

Or maybe she was just unable to break free from it.

Like a dying fire that still holds a few glowing embers, the memories sparked under the gentle wind, threatening to flare up again.

Daniel said nothing. He simply watched her quietly, his gaze steady and unblinking.

The shifting light played across her face, illuminating and shadowing her features by turns, yet she remained heartbreakingly beautiful.

Amelia couldn’t describe what she felt in that moment.

It was complicated, like biting into a piece of candy that looked sweet but turned out rotten inside—she knew she shouldn’t swallow, but it was too sweet to spit out.

She should have yanked off the bracelet and thrown it back at him. After all, what was the point of exchanging anniversary gifts when they were about to divorce?

But she didn’t.

The sweetness from the vlog lingered, too rich to shake off. The memory of how they used to look at each other—so full of fire—warmed the cold ache in her chest.

Daniel watched her quietly, his lips quirking as he pinched her cheek. “What’s this? About to cry?”

“Nope.” Amelia turned her head away. “Only a fool would cry.”

“Alright, you’re not crying.” His thumb brushed the corner of her mouth, voice rough. “But what if I want to kiss you—what then?”

Amelia’s brows knit in annoyance, ready to snap at him—when her phone suddenly buzzed, shattering the almost-intimate moment.
