Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 76

Daniel instantly understood what was going on.

He turned to Amelia and asked, “So, what’s the story this time? Which version of events am I getting blamed for?”

Amelia ignored him, making her way over to Baron. As she walked past Daniel, she deliberately stepped on his foot.

“Professor, you wanted to see me?”

“Mr. Wood wants another group photo again. I swear, I’ve never seen anyone so obsessed with taking pictures at every single dinner.”

Baron eyed Daniel with a scrutiny that would make any future father-in-law look gentle by comparison. His stare shifted from critical to downright disapproving, as if he couldn’t believe “our family’s darling daughter ended up with someone like this.”

Amelia tugged on Baron’s sleeve. “Let’s go, Professor—everyone’s waiting.”

Mr. Wood’s love for group photos was legendary. At every gathering, out came the camera, no exceptions.

About a dozen people lined up: school administrators and Baron took the front row, while the students filled in the two rows behind.

A waiter picked up the camera and was just about to snap the picture when a knock sounded at the private room’s door. Daniel’s annoyingly handsome face—good enough for any movie star—appeared in the doorway.

Amelia heard two girls next to her suck in a sharp breath. If it weren’t for the professors present, they’d have probably squealed on the spot.

Amelia pressed her lips together, thinking, *Unbelievable. He just never disappears, does he?*

Mr. Wood recognized Daniel and hurried over to shake his hand. “Mr. Campbell! What a coincidence.”

Daniel shook his hand politely. “I heard you were having dinner here, so I thought I’d stop by and say hello.”

He glanced at the group lined up. “What’s happening here?”

“Group photo!” Mr. Wood said enthusiastically, seeing an opportunity. “Mr. Campbell, would you like to join us?”

Daniel put on a show of hesitation. “Would that be all right?”

“Of course, of course!”

Mr. Wood tried to usher Daniel into the center of the front row, but Daniel demurred, “The professors should be in front. I’m just a junior—back row is fine.”

Baron snorted inwardly. *Such humility—if only your skin weren’t so thick.*

Mr. Wood didn’t push it and simply let him choose.

Amelia’s face was frosty. “No need.”

Daniel grinned. “Then come home with me.”

She gave him a look of utter exasperation. She’d heard of people backing off when rejected, but this guy just kept pushing forward.

“That’s your house, not mine.”

Daniel caught her hand. “It’s our house—our newlywed place. I had it decorated just the way you like. At least half the stuff in there belongs to you. How is it not your home?”

Amelia remained icy. “Pack up my things, then. I’ll come get them when I have time.”

Daniel’s frown could have rivaled a thundercloud. “If your English teacher saw this level of comprehension, she’d be weeping in the bathroom. At what point did I say you had to move out?”

“We’re divorced. Of course I should move out.”

To Amelia, it was only logical. But Daniel suddenly grew agitated. “I said we’re not getting divorced, Amelia. I could say it a hundred times and it wouldn’t change. We are *not* getting divorced!”

Amelia tried to yank her hand free, but his grip was unyielding. She focused on prying one finger off at a time—she’d get the first loose, then as she moved to the second, the first would close right back up. After several rounds of this, she realized she was getting nowhere at all.
