Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 98

A dark, violent rage twisted Daniel’s features. He drove his knee hard into Samuel’s gut, so forcefully that Samuel felt like his insides had been rearranged. Samuel’s free hand lashed out instinctively, but Daniel caught it and, with a cold, merciless look, began to bend it back at an unnatural angle.

Samuel’s pain was so intense, he couldn’t even scream. His face went sheet-white, lips trembling with shock.

But Daniel wasn’t finished. He dragged the now limp Samuel over to the coffee table, slammed him face-down onto the glass surface, and grabbed a heavy crystal ashtray, bringing it down with a shattering crash.

Jagged glass glittered menacingly, aimed straight at Samuel’s groin. Daniel’s voice was guttural, each word heavy with menace. “The woman I would die to protect—you dared lay a hand on her?”

The glass shards drove into flesh. Samuel’s scream—raw, animal, and agonized—filled the room.

Amelia squeezed her eyes shut, fighting to hold herself together. She could barely think, but the horror in Samuel’s cries forced her to speak, even if she had no idea what exactly was happening. “Daniel—his father is Ian Wilson. Don’t be reckless!”

Daniel flung aside the bloodied shards, letting Samuel collapse in a broken heap. With a look of disgust, he nudged him away with his foot. “You should thank your lucky stars for your father. Go home and be a good son.”

Grabbing a fistful of tissues, Daniel wiped the blood from his hands with a few quick swipes. Then he strode over to the sofa and scooped Amelia up into his arms.

He pressed a gentle kiss to her tightly shut eyes. “Good girl,” he murmured.

The private lounge was soundproofed, but even so, Mr. Clark, who’d been anxiously hovering outside, caught the muffled sounds—one of which he recognized as his nephew’s howl of pain.

Mr. Clark paced the hallway in mounting panic. Samuel was a notorious womanizer, but picking a fight with Daniel? That was suicide.

The door finally opened from the inside. Daniel emerged, carrying a woman in his arms. Her face was pressed to his chest, hidden by her hair and clothing, so nobody could get a good look at her.

Daniel still radiated menace, his voice cold and low. “Mr. Clark, your nephew laid hands on someone under my protection tonight. Please let Mr. Wilson know that if he has any questions, he can come to me directly. You’d better call an ambulance.”

Mr. Clark assumed this was just Daniel venting his anger; with their respective family backgrounds, surely Daniel wouldn’t go too far.

But when the paramedics arrived and Mr. Clark finally entered the room, the sight inside left him frozen in shock.

Alarmed, the housekeeper followed them to the master bedroom. Daniel gently removed Amelia’s shoes and laid her on the bed, asking the housekeeper to stay with her for a moment.

He meant just a moment. Daniel took the fastest shower of his life, changed into clean clothes, and emerged from the bathroom.

“Bring a bowl of hot water, then go get some rest,” he instructed.

The housekeeper returned with the water, pausing at the door to cast another worried glance at Amelia before leaving.

Daniel wrung out a towel and reached for Amelia’s hand. She flinched instinctively, recoiling from his touch.

The anger Daniel had tried so hard to suppress flared up again at her reaction. Damn it, I should have killed him.

But no matter how furious he was inside, his voice stayed gentle. He softly took her hand. “It’s me. Don’t be afraid.”
