Seeing lan lose his cool, Chloe struggled to sit up.
“I’m really fine,” she said.

And nothing hurt more than when she found out Ian had cheated on her, and had to watch, through the screen, as he and Andrea reunited in front of everyone.
Ian sat at the edge of the bed, and they stared at each other, only inches apart.
Chloe was unusually calm and quiet now.
Her unsettling docility sent a wave of anxiety crashing through Ian.
Ian tentatively reached for Chloe’s hand. “I messed up tonight. I shouldn’t have let Andrea into our lounge and let her wear your clothes.”
Almost imperceptibly, Chloe drew her hand away. “If we’re able to share everything else with her now, what’s one piece of clothing? She can have it.”
Her offhand remark hit Ian like a ton of bricks, leaving him struggling to breathe.
Ian gripped Chloe’s wrist, silently locking eyes with her for a long, hesitant moment.
At last, he broke the silence. “Chloe, whether you believe me or not, there’s nothing going on between Andres and me—at least not the way you think.”
Chloe lowered her head, a cold, mocking laugh playing inside her mind.
She didn’t even need to wonder–everyone had seen the truth with their own eyes.
Ian continued, “Back in college, Andrea saved my life. She pursued me relentlessly for a whole year. Her family was nothing special, but she was honest, thrifty, and genuinely kind. Eventually, I agreed to date her- after graduation, I even considered marrying her.”
When Chloe didn’t respond, Ian’s grip on her wrist unconsciously tightened, his anxiety mounting as the silence stretched between them.
He went on, “Edward, my grandfather, wanted us apart. He threatened Andrea’s family and forced her to leave the country and marry someone else. She suffered through six years of domestic abuse, endured multiple miscarriages, and ended up with severe depression. In the end, Andrea had to escape back to Newcrest with her child–she just couldn’t endure it anymore.”
Ian continued, “Chloe, I admit I lied and stayed away from home for a whole month because of Andrea. I broke your trust. And because of Andrea and her child, I ended up hurting you and neglecting you.”
He added, “But I never once thought of divorcing you for Andrea. I never betrayed our marriage, and I never

betrayed you.”
They locked eyes, neither looking away.
:
Chloe shot back, her voice laced with cold skepticism, “You’ve told me all this–so what exactly are you trying to say?”
lan’s brows drew together in a deep frown.
Chloe said, “All I hear is your praise for Andrea, your pity for her, and the regret you just can’t seem to let go of.”
Ian let go of her wrist and instead cupped the back of her neck, gently pulling her closer.
He said, “Chloe, really, all I ever gave Andrea and her kid was a hand when they needed it–nothing more, not like what you think. Can’t you just let them fade into the background? Let’s try to be okay again, just the two of us.”
Chloe tipped her chin up and met Ian’s gaze. “You knew you were hurting me, but Don’t call it a mistake–this was something you chose.”

anyway.
Ian, acting on impulse, pulled Chloe into his arms, holding her tightly and refusing to let go.
He said, “Chloe, all I’m doing is taking care of Andrea and her kid. But you–you’re my wife. You’re the one I’m bound to for life.”
But in the end, he couldn’t risk telling Chloe the truth–that Andrea’s son isn’t related to him by blood.
Chloe pressed her cheek to Ian’s chest, listening to the powerful beat of his heart. For the first time in a while, a wave of calm settled over her.
She said, “Ian, I don’t want to spend my life in a three–person marriage.”
Ian didn’t respond–he just wrapped his arms tighter around her, like he was terrified to ever let her go.
Even if this wasn’t what she wanted, he wasn’t going to let her walk away.
After everything they’d said and all that emotional back–and–forth, this was where it stopped–nothing more left to say.
Inside the hospital room, Ian held Chloe in a quiet, tense embrace–the silence between them weighed down the air.
Chloe simply let him hold her, her face expressionless and distant; she didn’t make a scene, didn’t shed a tear -she was just there, motionless in his arms.
That night, Ian held back from filing for divorce–he refused to give Andrea and her son any hope for a future with him.
All of it was to shield Andrea and her kid, wary of just how ruthless Edward could get.

Andrea saved lan’s life back in college, and ever since then, he’s always had a soft spot for her
She spent six grueling years overseas, endured countless hardships, and came back to Newcrest with a son for Jan.

But even with all that, Andrea still couldn’t make lan walk away from everything for her and her kid, fast shows she didn’t have what it takes.
Right now, Chloe realized her only way out was to make Andrea stop seeing her as a rival.
She would have to join forces with Andrea and help her and her child secure their place in the Hamilton family.
Only then could Chloe finally break free from this marriage.
Chloe just curled up quietly in Ian’s arms, so obedient it was honestly kind of creepy–even like she’d stopped fighting altogether.
But it didn’t put Ian at ease at all. If anything, her strange calm just made him even more anxious.
Back when Andrea first came back to Newcrest, Chloe totally lost it–she was making a huge scene, even threatening to end it all if Ian didn’t pay attention to her.
At the time, Ian just thought she was a drama queen, way too hysterical, never able to keep her cool
But now, she was eerily calm–no tears, no fights, no drama at all.
And yet, Ian couldn’t feel relieved. Instead, he was left with a hollow, anxious feeling, like something was seriously off.
When Chloe said she needed her phone, Ian stood up and went to grab it for her.
Chloe let her parents know that she and Ian had gone off to Newcrest and wouldn’t be back for a few days.
Over the next few days, Chloe focused on recovering in the hospital.
She had to get well fast–she couldn’t afford to put her life, or her career, on hold any longer.
