A cryptic smile tugged at Miranda’s lips.

Andrea furtively watched Miranda’s reaction, her heart racing with excitement. ‘I can’t believe this is really happening,’ she thought to herself.
Before Miranda could speak, Andrea quickly prompted her son, “Clint, hurry up and thank your grandma.”
But before Clint could get a word out, Miranda cut him off. “Andrea, you really think you can get your ex- husband’s son into the Hamilton family? You actually have the nerve to dream that!”
With a mental crash, Andrea’s mind went blank–like someone just dropped a bomb in her head.
She stared stiffly at Miranda, disbelief written all over her face, her gaze locked and unmoving.
‘How the hell does this old woman know the truth about my son?‘ Andrea’s heart pounded in panic.
Andrea stood before Miranda, guilty written all over her from head to toe.
Putting on her best innocent expression, Andrea said, “Mrs. Hamilton, what do you mean? I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Miranda arched her brow. “Andrea, Ian’s already confessed. Cut the act.”
Andrea’s eyes flickered with uncertainty, unable to meet anyone’s gaze.
She braced herself and said, “Mrs. Hamilton, are you sure you’re not mistaken? You’ve seen the paternity test. If you’re still not convinced, you can have them do another one. It’s not like I have anything to hide.”
Miranda nodded. “You’re right.”
As soon as she finished speaking, two bodyguards stepped in, roughly pulling Andrea and Clint apart and snipping a clump of Clint’s hair.
Clint was scared out of his wits, bawling his eyes out as he kicked and punched at the bodyguards. “My dad’s loaded! I’ll have him beat you to death!”
Seeing this, Andrea panicked completely.
She frantically covered Clint’s mouth and pulled him behind her, trying to shield him.
Her eyes locked onto the clump of hair in the bodyguard’s hand, and she lost control–lunging forward to snatch it away.
SLAP!
Miranda slapped her so hard that Andrea staggered backward, nearly falling.
Miranda said, “Andrea, I only allowed you and your son to live here because I believed that boy was my

grandson.”
Miranda paused for a moment.

She continued, “But since he’s not part of the Hamilton family, don’t expect me to help you ever again.”
Andrea refused to back down. “Mrs. Hamilton, who’s been spreading rumors about me and my son? How could Clint possibly not be a Hamilton? If you don’t believe it, get lan in here and ask him yourself!”
Her voice was loud and forceful, but the tremor in her tone gave her away–Andrea was barely holding it together.
What the hell went wrong?‘ Andrea thought, panic rising in her chest.
Why did this old woman suddenly find out my secret?‘ Andrea’s mind raced, heart pounding.
He promised me–there’s no way Ian would say a word about it.
Who besides Ian could possibly know this secret?‘ Andrea’s thoughts spun, panic bubbling up inside her.
‘Don’t tell me… he’s come back to the country?‘ Andrea’s heart nearly stopped.
Andrea couldn’t help but let her imagination run wild.
Miranda pulled out the rental contract. “Andrea, I wouldn’t have bothered coming here without hard evidence. You haven’t lived here long, but you’ve ruined the vibe and messed up the entire setup of my house. Besides paying rent, you owe me compensation—a total of thirty million dollars. Cash or wire, your choice.”
When she realized Miranda was for real, Andrea’s expression shifted wildly–anger, disbelief, and panic all flashing across her face.
Then Andrea snapped, her voice rising as she shouted, “Mrs. Hamilton, you promised me! You said I could change whatever I wanted about the place when I moved in! How can you suddenly take it all back?”
Miranda replied coolly, “You claim I promised you. Got any proof?”
Andrea staggered, biting her lip so hard she nearly drew blood.
‘Damn, I totally walked right into her trap!‘ Andrea cursed herself, her heart dropping.
Miranda said, “It’s all right here in black and white. Not a penny more, not a penny less. You and your son have to clear out tonight.”
She continued, “I know you don’t have that kind of cash, so I already had people reach out to your mom and your brother’s family. Your handbags and jewelry can cover a bit–whatever’s left, they’ll have to pay up.”
Andrea completely freaked out. “You better not drag my brother’s family or my nephews into this!”
Miranda let out a cold laugh. “The Sherman family really raised a perfect daughter–selling herself just to pay for her nephews‘ school. You think I’ll keep that secret? I’ll make sure everyone knows, spread it far and wide and let your family get ‘famous‘ for it.”

Andrea spat out her words through gritted teeth, her eyes blazing. “No matter what you do, I’m still the woman lan loves most. Aren’t you afraid your own son will end up hating you?”
Miranda gave Andrea a frosty look. “Who says I’d even want to claim him as my son? Why would I care if he hates me or not?”
Andrea’s eyes widened in utter disbelief.
Miranda gave Andrea a chilling bit of advice. “Andrea, the old man already knows your kid’s dirty little secret. If you don’t want to get yourself killed, you’d better start plotting your own way out.”
Miranda shot the bodyguards a look, then turned her back and strode out.
Half an hour later, all of Andrea’s valuables were confiscated–every last piece taken away.
Andrea stared at her phone as it blew up with calls from her mom and her brother’s family. Snapping under the pressure, she smashed her phone in a fit of rage.
Andrea could hear Clint bawling behind her, and for no damn reason at all, she just got pissed off.
Not giving a damn about his pain, she roughly yanked him into the bathroom.
Andrea practically choked Clint as she shoved him down onto the toilet, twisting his body hard, not holding back in the slightest.
Clint bawled his eyes out, sobbing as he pleaded, “Mommy, please stop! I’ll be good, I promise!”
Andrea’s eyes were bloodshot, and the murderous look on her face made it clear she was about ready to snap.
Andrea grabbed Clint by the neck, her voice a hateful hiss as she cursed him. “You useless brat! All this time and you can’t win anyone over! What good are you to me, huh? If I’d known you’d be such a disappointment, I would’ve smothered you myself the day you were born! Nothing but dead weight—a leech I never should’ve carried!”
She’d totally been played by Miranda Hamilton–fell right into the old witch’s trap, letting her frame her for selling knockoffs. Not only did she lose her job, but she’d been harassed online for weeks straight. The smear campaign had wrecked her reputation beyond repair.
Her rented apartment got splashed with paint, her car was totaled, she’d get blocked at the school gate whenever she tried picking up Clint, and even her mom got dragged into this mess–ended up with a broken leg and had to stay at her brother’s place.
Now that old witch had cut off her last lifeline, dragging down not just her, but her brother’s whole family too -leaving them all with no way out.
No way was Andrea letting that old witch get away with this. Not ever.
She had to find somewhere safe to hide out first–then she was heading straight to lan to get some damned
answers.
Clint’s desperate cries kept on all through the night, not stopping until the sky began to lighten. Only after

Andrea had vented every last bit of rage and was too exhausted to go on did she finally leave her son alone.
After swallowing her pride and calling Vivian Monroe, Andrea grabbed Clint and finally left the house.
At eight the next morning, Chloe had just stepped into the hospital when a tiny figure dashed straight toward
her.
She quickly crouched down and opened her arms just in time to catch Simon Foster.
Simon didn’t say a word. He just hid in her embrace, eyes down, clinging to her and refusing to look up.
Chloe gave his little cheeks a gentle squeeze, her tone full of affection. “Simon, sweetheart, come here–let Auntie give you a hug.”
She lifted him up into her arms, and Simon nestled against Chloe’s shoulder, whispering softly, “Mommy.”
Chloe’s heart ached, thinking about the baby she never got to hold.
Feeling sorry for the kid, Chloe just ruffled Simon’s hair and let him call her whatever he wanted.
Philip sighed. “Sorry, Dr. Irvine. Once Simon’s calm, I promise I’ll get him to use the right name.”
Chloe joked, “If he really can’t, I guess I could be his godmother.”
Before Chloe’s words even faded, Philip made the call, “It’s settled.”
