Mia took the medical report Andrea handed over, then shot a glance at Chloe. She felt something about her seemed off.

“Do you know me?” she asked, turning back towards Andrea.

Andrea smiled faintly before glancing at Chloe. “I just heard this lady call you Mia, and a friend of mine has a sister named Mia too, so I was curious.”

Chloe felt her blood drain, leaving her face as pale as a sheet.

From the first moment she had seen Andrea, Chloe had suspected something from her figure and hairstyle. Hearing her probe Mia’s name had left her uncertain.

But when her eyes landed on the diamond bracelet on Andrea’s wrist, everything clicked. She was Andrea Sherman.

Chloe froze, stunned, unable to process what to do next. Mia, sensing something, gave Andrea a sharp look. “That’s right. I’m Mia Hamilton. And you are?”

Andrea’s gaze flicked to Chloe. “I’m a friend of Jan. My name’s Andrea Sherman.”

Mia’s eyes darted toward Chloe, realization dawning. This was the woman lan had been holding in lan heart all these years.

This Andrea didn’t seem remarkable at all, Mia sneered inside. Certainly not a patch on Chloe.

Chloe’s hands clenched at her sides. The woman her husband had been involved with was right there, but she could do nothing.

She knew that if she exposed Andrea now, Ian would defend her to the death.

Chloe couldn’t pull off a three–hundred–million divorce and had no way to deal with the aftermath. Any outburst now would only humiliate herself.

Taking a deep breath, Chloe forced herself to keep her composure.

Mia linked her arm through Chloe’s. “This is my sister–in–law, Chloe,” she introduced.

Andrea met Chloe’s gaze without so much as a flicker of avoidance. But Mia, as if realizing Andrea’s true identity, suddenly spoke up, “You know, Chloe and Ian, they’re just two lovey–doveys.”

“Well, I can see that,” Andrea smiled, extending her hand politely toward Chloe. “Mrs. Hamilton, you’re truly beautiful.”

Chloe forced out a strained, “You as well.”

“Ms. Sherman, the car is ready. You should get some rest,” just then, a caretaker showed up, carrying a bag of medicine and helping Andrea to her feet.

Andrea nodded, turning to leave. “Mrs. Hamilton, Mia, I’ll take my leave, then.”

Chloe stood frozen, watching Andrea’s retreating figure.

lan had truly given her everything he could. Andrea had designer clothes, branded accessories, a private driver, a car, and a caretaker.

Her chest tightened, emotions crashing back like a tidal wave, and Chloe collapsed onto the hallway bench.

Mia, worried, hurried over. “Chloe, why didn’t you argue with her?”

Tears welled in Chloe’s eyes. Her lips trembled. “I…”

Buy thinking of Mia’s temper, she swallowed the words.

Mia frowned, then as if making up her mind, she helped steady Chloe, placed her bag beside her, and started toward Andrea.

“Wait, Mia!” Chloe lunged but couldn’t catch her. Heart pounding, she hurried after.

Mia was already planted at the elevator doors, one arm stretched out to block Andrea’s path.

Mia’s fingers twitched with the urge to slap her, but she pasted on a bright, brittle smile.

“Ms. Sherman, one glance at that outfit and I can tell you’ve got serious pedigree,” she said. “Care to share which family you’re from? I’d love to be friends.”

Andrea’s nails bit deep into her palms.

Everything she wore and carried had come from Ian. They’d dated six years ago, and the Hamilton family knew perfectly well who she was. She knew this question was pure humiliation.

She drew a slow breath. “You flatter me. I’m just from an ordinary family.”

Mia crossed her arms, drawing out her words with a singsong lilt, “Then your husband’s family must be loaded. Which wealthy family did you marry into? Maybe I know them.”

Color drained from Andrea’s face. She flicked a quick glance at Chloe, then met Mia’s gaze. “I’m not married,” she said evenly.

Chloe staggered a step, nearly losing her balance. Not married–yet she had a five–year–old son. She knew the kid could only be Ian’s.

Mia’s brows shot up. She gave a slow, mocking thumbs–up. “Impressive. What line of work are you in?” she asked. “I admire women like you–making your own money, spending it yourself, never leeching off a man.”

Andrea’s cheeks burned. She darted another quick look at Chloe, then dropped her eyes.

“Miss Hamilton, I have something to do. I’ll take my leave,” she murmured, and slipped into the elevator before the doors slid shut.

Mia stepped forward, ready to follow, but Chloe caught her arm.

“I haven’t even slapped her yet!” Mia snapped, stomping a heel against the marble floor.
