lan tried to be as gentle as possible with his voice when talking to Chloe. “Chloe, I’ve told you before–there are reasons why I had to keep her here. If you just say yes, you’ll get to know the truth.”
Chloe pushed lan away.
Her gaze was firm as she said, “lan, I don’t care what your reasons are. I don’t want to know the truth, either. Count me out. Ask someone else.”
Whether lan wanted her to treat Andrea or truly wanted her to hypnotize Andrea and dig up some hidden secret, it didn’t matter.
Chloe was not interested at all, and there was absolutely no way she’d agree to it.
Chloe turned and headed back to the bedroom.
lan called out from behind her, “What if she’s actually killed someone and got away with it? Would you still refuse to help?”
Chloe turned around. “If she really broke the law, let the police deal with it.”
lan could tell Chloe was really determined to refuse.
He walked up to her and said, “If you’re not okay with it, let’s just pretend I never asked. I won’t push you.”
Ian caught her gently by the wrist. “You know your blood sugar can drop–have some dinner before you go
rest.
They had dinner together.
lan went to his study, and Chloe returned to her bedroom.
All night, lan paced alone in his study.
Chloe refused to hypnotize Andrea, so he had to come up with another plan.
But he was done wasting time.
Chloe tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Her mind just couldn’t let go of everything lan had said tonight.
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head and Chloe shot upright in bed.
At two in the morning. Chloe got out of bed barefoot and knocked on lan’s study door.
Chloe lingered just outside the study, with lan standing in the doorway, a silent tension hanging between
them.

Chloe said, “Okay, I’ll help Andrea out–and if you need me to hypnotize her, I can do that too. But you’ve got to meet my conditions.”
‘I can’t afford to be so stubborn about this,‘ Chloe thought to herself.
After all, hypnosis was just another form of therapy–nothing to lose sleep over.
‘If Ian’s telling the truth, and Andrea really does have some huge secret, then I guess I’m doing everyone a favor here, Chloe mused.
This way, Andrea gets the therapy, Ian finds out the truth he desperately wants, and Chloe finally gets her divorce. Everyone gets what they want.
Ian’s face darkened. “What’s your condition?”
Chloe said. “You agree to divorce me, and I’ll accept Andrea as my patient.”
Ian’s face visibly darkened, his expression sinking lower with every second.
His gaze dropped to Chloe’s bare feet.
Without warning, Ian strode over, hauled her up with one arm, and carried her off to the master bedroom, tossing her onto the bed.
Chloe scrambled up and scooted to the far side of the bed, keeping her guard up.
With a scowl, Ian yanked the blanket off the bed and flung it over Chloe’s head. “Divorce? Keep dreaming.”
Chloe pulled the blanket off her head, only to find the bedroom already empty–Ian had walked out without a word.
The next morning, Ian was surprised to find Chloe in the kitchen, making breakfast–a rare sight in this house.
Seeing lan about to head out, Chloe rushed over and stopped him. “Skipping breakfast is bad for your stomach. I made thin noodles specifically for you. Eat before you leave.”
lan stood there with a frosty expression. “What are you trying to say?”
Chloe said, ‘Ian, think twice about what I told you last night, alright?”
Ian brushed past her coldly. “Just eat your breakfast.”
Chloe grabbed his arm and spoke patiently, “Tan, I’m not trying to freak you out, but you keep saying Andrea’s your great love–you’d better take care of her. If her insomnia keeps up, it’s seriously going to wreck her
health”
Chloe continued, “First, her temper will get even worse, and she won’t be able to handle that pretend son of yours. She’ll get headaches, her memory will slip, she won’t be able to concentrate. She could end up with heart disease, stomach problems, more risk of diabetes and even cancer. And that’s just the start-
hapter
“Enough–just shut up already,” Ian cut her off coldly.

Ian pressed his hand over Chloe’s mouth, picked her up in one swift motion, and carried her straight into the
kitchen.
After setting her down, Ian pulled the kitchen door closed behind her, leaving Chloe locked inside.
Chloe jiggled the kitchen door, trying to get out.
But lan gripped the handle tightly from the other side, keeping her trapped inside.
Chloe banged on the door, calling out, “lan, you’ve done everything you can for Andrea–you’re just one step away from a happy ending! Seriously, just agree to the divorce, and I’ll go all out to help her. Hypnosis, therapy, however many sessions you want, I’ll do it. Heck, I won’t even charge you a cent if that’s what it takes.”
With a sharp swipe, Ian flung the kitchen door open.
The two of them locked eyes.
Ian glared and threatened, “Try spouting more nonsense and see if I don’t strangle you myself.”
Chloe clamped the apron over her mouth.
Once Ian was out the door, Chloe let out a long sigh of relief.
Chloe was convinced that if Andrea really was struggling with insomnia that bad, Ian’s heart would ache for her–there’s no way he could ignore it.
As long as he cared about Andrea, he’d have to give in and agree to the divorce.
That afternoon, Chloe left Tranquil Estate early, went out of her way to stop by the seafood market, and picked up some crabs to bring to her parents‘ place.
A neighbor told Chloe that her parents were out for a stroll in the neighborhood park, so she dropped off her bags and headed over to look for them.
From a distance, she spotted her parents hanging out with a bunch of other grandparents, all of them chatting while the kids played nearby.
Chloe was just about to go say hello when she overheard a granny holding her granddaughter ask her parents, “I heard your daughter is a doctor. How old is she now? Is she already married?”
Frank and Jill traded an awkward glance. Jill answered, “She’s twenty–six. Yes, she’s already married.”
A grandpa joined in, “So, how old is her kid?”
Jill bowed her head a little. “She’s caught up with work lately, so she hasn’t had any kids yet
Chloe watched her parents awkwardly shuffle away from the crowd, unable to blend in.
