Chapter 238
It was late at night, and Chloe stood quietly on the sidewalk by the road.
She fixed her cold, emotionless stare on lan, as if looking at a complete stranger.
Chloe waited, completely unfazed as Ian lost his temper, then finally told him,

“lan, I’m single now. I can accept gifts from whoever I want, wear whatever clothes someone buys for me. None of this has anything to do with you!”
Her voice was steady and quiet, but there was no mistaking the firmness in her words.
lan shook his head, refusing to accept it. “No, that’s not true. You can’t possibly mean that!”
He told her, “Even if we’re divorced, in my heart, you’re still my wife. There’s no way I’m letting you accept gifts from other men!”
A mocking smirk played on Chloe’s lips. “Ian, I’m not your accessory, and definitely not your property. What you think doesn’t matter to me. As far as I’m concerned, you’re already history.”
Chloe stood her ground, while Ian started to unravel.
He grabbed her wrist and yanked her toward him, his whole body bristling with agitation.
Ian snapped, “Philip’s a scheming old fox. He’s got a marriage behind him and a son. You barely even know the guy, and he just drops a ten–million–dollar dress on you. Can’t you see what his angle is?”
Chloe fired back, “Whatever he wants from me, that’s my business. None of it’s your concern!”
Ian completely lost it, yanking Chloe into his arms. “Chloe, you’re mine–you hear me? With everything we’ve been through, I won’t let you talk like that!”
Chloe struggled to break free, but Ian’s grip only grew more possessive.
Driven by desperation, Chloe bit down hard on his chest.
Ian grunted from the pain, his arms instinctively pulling her even closer.
His face buried in her shoulder, lan clung to her scent like he never wanted to let go.
His voice was low and muffled as he pleaded, “Chloe, just do as I say, okay? Return the money for that dress to Philip. From now on, whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you.”
As Chloe finally stopped struggling in his arms, lan suddenly felt a wave of panic wash over him.
He held her even tighter, his voice dropping to a low, coaxing whisper. “Sweet Chloe, I’ll give you everything t own. You can buy whatever you want–promise me you won’t accept any more presents from Philip, alright?”
Jan waited a long time, but Chloe still didn’t say a word

Feeling anxious and almost desperate, he loosened his grip just a little and pleaded, “Chloe, please… say something!”
Chloe pressed her hands firmly against lan’s chest, determined to keep her distance. “Let go of me first,” she
said.
The air was thick with tension as lan finally–though reluctantly–let her go.
Chloe immediately stepped back twice, wanting as much space between them as possible.
Chloe kept her face cold as she looked at lan. “Ian, if Philip giving me a dress means he’s got something shady going on, then what about everything you gave Andrea? What were you really after with her?”
They stared at each other, unwilling to back down.
Ian’s heart sank, little by little.
After a long silence, he finally said, “Whether you believe me or not, I never wanted to divorce you for Andrea. I never wanted to let you go.”
Chloe let out a bitter laugh. “Just because you never wanted a divorce doesn’t make you loyal, and it sure doesn’t make your actions any less dirty.”
She shot back, “You hooked up with Andrea while you were still married to me, lied about it for a whole month, telling me you couldn’t come home for the sake of her and her kid. You pulled out your private yacht, rented an entire beach, baked a blueberry cake with your own hands just to flaunt your feelings for her on Instagram. And then you turn around and tell me you never wanted to let me go? Isn’t that just pathetic?”
Ian’s lips trembled, but he couldn’t utter a single word.
That night on the beach, the blueberry cake, that fleeting Instagram story—all of it, every detail, was just another scar he gave Chloe.
It was undeniable proof of his betrayal.
It was a stain he could never wash away.
It was a gulf between him and Chloe that nothing could ever fix.
Chloe scoffed, “You showered Andrea and her kid with cars, houses, handbags, and bling. You hired them their own driver and nanny, slipped shoes onto her feet yourself, even went out of your way to buy her pads. That’s all stuff you actually did for her, isn’t it?”
“Chloe!” Jan burst out, his voice cracking as he cut her off.
He couldn’t hold back any longer–be just snapped, desperate to stop her from saying another word.
His eyes were rimmed red, the emotion in them impossible to hide.
He stared at Chloe, lost and vulnerable, inching closer as if afraid she’d disappear

lan pleaded, “Chloe, I regret everything I did back then. It’s been so long–can’t you just let it go?”
Chloe gave a bitter, mocking laugh. “I’m the one who got hurt–so why do I have to be the one to just get over
it?”
She met Ian’s gaze with cold defiance, refusing to back down.
She shot back, “You treated Andrea’s son like your own, sent him to some elite school, drove him around, and even lowered yourself to pick out toys for him–just bend over backwards for that kid like you owed him something.”
Chloe went on, “lan, you were a married man doing all this for some other woman. Philip and I are both single. We did nothing shady, didn’t step on anyone, didn’t break any laws, didn’t betray anyone. So what exactly is wrong with us?”
Back then, Chloe turned down gifts from countless guys, all because of Ian.
But in the end, none of it ever got her what she really wanted.
From now on, she could accept gifts from anyone she wanted–no more second thoughts.
The only exception? She’d never accept a single thing from Ian ever again.
Ian could barely keep himself upright as he stood in front of Chloe, shoulders slumped, looking physically and emotionally drained.
He begged, “Chloe, can’t you just give me one more chance–just trust me one last time?”
Chloe waved him off with total indifference. “Ian, I just want to live my own life now–a life that has nothing to do with you anymore.”
Each word from Chloe hit Ian like a dagger straight to his heart, leaving him shattered inside.
He stood there, eyes bloodshot and face just barely holding it together, his whole body locked up stiff as stone right in front of her.
Chloe fixed her gaze on Ian. “I’m only here to make one thing clear–whether it’s Mrs. Goodwin, Miss Margaret Goodwin, or Mrs. Quinn, they’re all giving me trouble because of you. I’m not the one at fault.”
